Ron Smith barrel reboring

The Ron Smith barrel I have is a gain twist in 264wm 1-8 final twist. Wouldn't you be counter productive and ruin the gain twist trying to reborn. Suppose I need to re read the OP, probably just my comprehends ships, often as gooder as my pronounciatition.

You end up with whatever twist they rebore it to. - dan

OP didn't mention what rifle barrel he wanted re-bored IIRC - But FWIW I looked into this subject once for a Newton rifle. Back then the various folks I explored that did this kind of work would not re-bore certain makes of barrels - while they didn't say so specifically - it was interesting that all of the makes that they would NOT re-bore were from manufacturers that used hammer forging. My assumption at the time was that process resulted in very hard surfaces that were not easily bored/re-rifled.

I acquired a used winchester 70 sporter varmint .223 that wouldn't shoot. It was a great looking rifle though, so I had RKS rebore it to the latest silhouette must have of the time .260 remington. He did a great job and it is now superbly accurate in that calibre. Highly recommend RKS.

Ron does excellent work to say the least.

I haven't bought a barrel from him for a long time. I've heard his son is now doing a lot, if not all of the work and that it's impossible to tell the difference between the finished products.

Here is some info on that barrel. When it first showed up there was a lot of talk on the ASSRA forum about it, and how well it shot.

Chris.

And for some that may not know; Those "250 score" targets shown in the above link, the 25 ring is 1.5" dia. and shot at 200 yards with cast lead bullets! And the barrel made from a chunk of rebar salvaged from a construction site !

Should add; Those are RKS barrels (Ron Smith).
