I didn't want to hi jack migrant hunters thread below. I am in the same boat. Went out had a 300 win mag built on a rem action, trued action, jury barrel, Bought Norma brass started fire forming brass as I was working up a load. However when I went to start resizing my brass I had to wait on my bushings, so I thought I would start by just nocking the primers out. Spent a few dollars on a good set of dies ( whidden die set). What I didn't check for was the expander ball, knock all the primers out and when I finally realized the expander ball was .338 in diameter which was stretching the brass. My question is should I throw out them brass or try and full length size them. If I full length size would I be working the necks to much. I did email whidden and they are sending proper size expander ball.

If it is 1-F brass, you should be able to size them back down to 30 cal without incident.
Norma brass is initially well-annealed, so I would not anticipate any grief.
However, you may want to anneal those cases before too many firings/resizings.
My thought is you should have been able to notice that .338 expander going through
those necks, even though they were expanded some from firing. [Rookie mistake, lol]
Regards, Dave.

I know should of seen it or felt it, kicking myself now. Brass has been fired only once, will shoot them once more then anneal.

I would just size them back down again. Most of my .264 WM brass is sized down 7mm. If you want to be really cautious, size them back down, anneal them, and then size them one more time. Your brass will be fine.

How did you ram a 338 expander ball down a 300 neck and not notice? That would require a hell of an effort.

Not really. I often neck up 30-06 brass to 338 and the resistance is hardly noticeable, especially if the inside of the neck is well lubricated. .
