I'm from Windsor, ON and there is a huge world out there across the border into Michigan. No gun licence necessary, give your ID and here's your Machine Gun!!! I went to a gun range and had an ok time.
Never firing a gun in my life, I read that I should start out with a 22 pistol. So my friend and I asked twice to fire a 22. Was told that I should rent the 357magnum 4" barrel with 38 special ammo instead. Scammed us to buy more expensive ammo! They show us how to load&unload, that's it! Go shoot. No instruction or supervision. I put the target out to about 30 feet, 50 rounds, hit the paper target about 35x. Where the other 15 went, who knows. Wish I had an instructor to tell me what I was doing wrong. I was very disappointed with the service and attitude there.
After running low on $ (more expensive than I thought renting and shooting) I said f--k it and let's rent an AR15 9mm and an AK47 7.62x39. I shot much better to 75 feet with both rifles. I really liked the AK.
Overall, it was fun, but wish we had some actual instruction there. Those guys just wanted to make $ from us and that's it.
They had some really cool stuff. I could have rented a full auto MP5 if I wanted! They had a pistol AK47, totally legal if not full auto! Crazy stuff. Wish we could get those here!!!

Copy and paste if you want to see some pics at the range. Me shooting a Romanian AK47 and some of the pistols they have with 30 round clips!!!

Ok I reposted this in the General Firearms Discussion. Thanks.

Hello and welcome. You're getting a little ahead of the game. This is a place just for hello and welcome. The kind of thing you want to discuss works better (for getting a response) in the General Firearms Discussion or one of the more specific forums. If you put it there, you'll find people will get back to you. Enjoy all the forums.

"...Wish I had an instructor..." Hi. You'll have to join a club to shoot in Ontario. The other members will help you. Including letting you shoot their firearms.
"...disappointed with the service..." The U.S. range likely does give instruction, but not for free. It's a business there.

Well being my first time at a shooting range, I guess my expectations were a little high. I will know better next time.
