does anyone know if the dealers ( Marstar i think ) still sell the Rooster33 style mounts, the ones that clamp to the barrel and stick through the handguard ?

seems that engineers and CnC'ers here in NZ are incapable of using their tools

I have a bunch of original rooster mounts and some very nicely milled out handguards to match. The Marstar mount will work with a chinese barrel, but will be too loose if you wind up re-barrelling with an american made barrel. It also sits higher than the rooster mount which, IMHO, is a drawback.

with only such a small rail, how does one mount any kind of optics? Especiially an IER scope? thanks

It's useful for mounting a red dot sight, such as an aimpoint ML3 or M3.
