Posted here so non competitors or casual accuracy enthusiasts will see it.

Rosebud Sillhoutte & Benchrest Club (west of Calgary, homestead road) will hold a score shoot on Saturday June 12. This will be the only non registered match of the year, so if someone wants to try it, it will be open to all.

For the guys with bench guns we will have a H.V. 100 & 200 yds. match $10.00 fee and trophies.

For folks who want to try Benchrest but don't have a BR rifle we will offer a factory only class 100 yard match. This class will be free of charge and the only rule is the gun must be a factory gun. No weight limit and no scope power limit. No prizes, as we want folks to learn and have fun. Coaching will be allowed so new shooters can take advantage of the knowledge from bench rest shooters. If time allows and the interest is there we will hold a 200 yard match as well. No one piece rests. You will need about 50 rounds for the 100 yd aggregate, another 50 rds for the 200 if you want to try it.

Match starts at 9:00, it would be a good idea to get there at 8:00 to register and get set up.

For those who have never been before, the Rosebud range information can be found here: Rosebud Info

If there are any questions people can PM me or check out the thread at : http://benchrestforum.ca/index.php?topic=153.0

Targets will be standard score targets, 5 bulls and a sighter bull on each target. 5 targets total at each distance.

This is the target you will be shooting at:

SOunds like fun. ROsebud is a beautiful place. No range membership needed??

It is a good time! No membership required to shoot the matches. Bring your rifle zeroed at 100 yds and fly at it. No charge for factory class.

Just to be clear, Rosebud Range is no where near the town of Rosebud. It is in Kananaskis Country. Map below:

I'm off that day, however it is my last day off. I am going to try and make it, as I really want to try this. 7.5 hours each way, but it's an excuse to shoot!

If I can get dies between now and then, I may even throw together a 6PPC for a Nesika action I have in a 6BR currently.... sayyyy. DonP... you reading this?

If your taking your 6BR I will try and make it as well but I'm not sure if my gun at 22 lbs makes it. If you make it to my place it's only 5.5 hours and I have Friday and Saturday off.R:d:

Cheers

We would never turn anyone away, but you may get your own class!

For BR rifles we will be limiting it to HV class (heavy varmint) which is 13.5 lbs.

Factory class won't have weight limit, but it must be a factory rifle.

Hope you guys can make it!

If you can't get the dies the BR will work fine! Come out and have some fun! It doesn't take me much longer to put up a full line of targets than a few. Would rather have to work a bit harder!

Agreed. A good time and a very interesting learning experience for me.
Shooting a full blown TACTICAL rifle against some very fine BR rifles was quite challenging. It became very apparent that having the right gear for the game makes an enormous difference.
This is my 1st true BR experience and looks like I may be finding yet another addiction to spend my kids future inheritances on. Being a lifelong "boomer" addict I now see the appeal of low recoil uber precise rifles.
I certainly appreciated the invititation even despite having my ass handed to me.
The guys were ALL very helpful in answering my questions.
Yet more proof that the various shooting disciplines really ARE friendly groups of folks.
Thanks again to all who put it on and all that came and put up with my questions.

Great to here of your experience at the shoot as a first timer to the shortrange world. I heard stories of the shoot and how Paul sold his NEWLY built BR rifle to a first time shooter. That is what we call and hope is hooked on BR. Hope to see you at the range. There is something nice to shooting sitting at a bench versus laying on the ground............

I was not the 1 that bought Pauls rifle, I believe that was the fellow from RSA who I think had some experience in BR unlike me.
I 110% agree though that shooting from a bench is nice, and certainly does not require the occasional embarrassment of asking for help up off the ground when an old guys back locks up:redface:

Rick....

Yes as a matter of fact I was just talking with the boys here about doing a dual port single shot version of our action.
You guys are evil:D

All I can say is BRAVO ON YOU.

I think you are the person who needed to see what our game is all about.

We are not a bunch of old guys just siting at benches shooting off of expensive rests with just our fingers on the triggers, there is SO MUCH MORE to the game. Thanks again and maybe we will see you August Long at the Cdn Nationals at Rosebud.

Short range BR is a tough game....I recall using Rpollocks rifle at Selkirk years ago and managing to shoot a respectable group....once...lol....

Like most things in life there is so much more than meets the eye....

Wish I could have been there! Was standing outside the Rockyview Hospital at 6 am waiting for the shift change to see if I was getting out and debated phoning Paul or Rick to help me escape! Good thing I didn't as I wouldn't have made the day!
Don't feel bad Rick, I know I couldn't do well the first time I tried a tactical match! BR is a totally different game and until you try it you can't appreciate how hard it really is. I have to commend you for doing that. And sure hope you got the bug!
Next match is group which is a little different again, but more fun. I should be able to get to that one but Paul will have to unload all the heavy gear. I am allowed to lift 10 pounds and my gun is at 10 1/2, so close enough. I know I can't lift my loading box or front rest.

Completely awesome that you made it out with the toys. Waaaay more Canadian made gear shown at the competitions is the only way we'll keep the hobby alive. Even if the equipment is "cross trained" a little, and of of the exact speciality.

Of course, like they say in prison, don't bring a tray to a chair fight if you want to win though.

Tony, you should absolutely come to a tac match. I'd love to see what someone with your loading skills would do. If you need gear, let me know.
