So I'm getting ready to have a rifle blued, and I have a few things to take apart yet. I didn't want to wreck anything, so I figured I would ask here first.
This little lug in the receiver, does it come out easily? I don't think this is super important to remove for bluing, I was just hoping to have it out to do a little better job of cleaning.
If this screw head is to remove it, is it left hand thread or just super tight or both?
This little switch by the bolt handle....I definitely want this out for cleaning/bluing.
Also, this bottom plate. The small oval-ish piece in the middle. Should it just slip out from pressing in the middle so it bends? Or will I bend it and have a hard time putting it back afterwards?
And the sling loop, I'm thinking of just leaving it or if I take it out, it will stay out because I might not be able to bend it back in properly. I'm assuming it's just a split ring that's bent into place...?
Are there any parts that should not be blued? It will be hot caustic bluing, for what it's worth. I'm mostly concerned about parts of the bolt, specifically the lugs. Any reason to or to not blue that part? Firing pin? I know it's mostly hidden, but there is a small bit of it that sticks out the back of the bolt assemly.
