Ross 'CRB'

Royal Marines Training Depot -----CROMBIE ----England ------Circa late WWI.

You will also find them marked "PLY" for PLYMOUTH, and "PH" for PRIDDIES HARD.

It's got a god-awful heavy barrel that's for sure. Decent to good bore with an uncut barrel.
Some hamhand has mistreated the rear sight but we'll get that fixed soon enough.

That heavy barrel is one factor that made them so accurate. Just be sure you look at the "Sticky" on bolt assembly, even if your rifle has the rivet in it. Be aware that once you fire it, you will never be the same, and they tend to multiply like rabbits.

Should take a pic of the three straight pulls leaning by the wood stove; M95M , Ross MKII & Ross MKIII, lol.
Sadly the MKIII seems to be about 4" shorter than the MKII...and it's already got an 1" thick rubber buttpad, guess the MKIII has been cut. The front sight seems a tad off kilter too. Bubba must have been hungover that day.

Uncut barrel on the Mark III was 30.5 inches, muzzle to bolt-face.

Your CRB was sporteredérebuilt after War Two by the british Trade, hence it will have the DCP Canadian proofing and BNP Birmingham proofing as well.

It also will have the original Canadian serial and unit markings on the BUTT, right-hand side. You can read these very often with a Black Light bulb. Careful when using; lotsa UV is NOT good for your eyes. These markings were sanded out when the rifles were surplused but sometimes they didn`t sand deep enough..... giving us hidden markings which we might read.

I have a 226 Batt rifle from this same program and it can be read without the Black Light; they sanded only as deep as they had to. The UV reads the compression of the wood UNDER the original markings.

Hope this helps.

GAWD! Someone at the door.... me with a conference call 30 miles away in an hour and sittin`here nekkid..... humans!
