Hello!
I'm wondering when exactly Ross produced 1905 factory sporters and for how long.
I heard lately that there were Ross production plants not only in Quebec city but also in Montmagny and Grand-Mère, Québec.
I'm living near Grand-Mère; I'll investigate.

Ross

Have read the "Ross Story" many times (still confuses me) and dont recall seeing it mentioned that Ross assembled rifles anywhere else after his plant ner QC was built. Does mention about componants coming from all over North America though. ROSSGUY should be able to clarify.

There were left over parts assembled into rifles into the 1920s after the factory closed.
I have a 1905 factory sporter, an R, which has the enlarged chamber. That doesn't make sense in a sporting rifle, but the barrel would appear to have been finished after the enlarged chamber became standard.

Do all Mk III's have the enlarged chamber? I suppose I'll have to fire it and see what happens to the brass to know?

Look at the barrel breech for "E" or "LC". If the rifle was set up after the implementation date, or if it was overseas, it will likely have a large chamber. There are different versions, fired cases vary, some look pretty much like a LE case, others are so fireformed they are ridiculous.

Large chambers

I'm understand that Home Guard rifles generally did not get oversized chambers. I recently had a sporterised MKIII with standard chamber. Bore was mint but cut to 21.5".

I have a cutdown Home Guard rifle the same without the oversize chamber.
As far as factorys go, of what I have read and seen the first factory was in Hartford USA and then Quebec. After the factory was closed Ross took some of the parts and finshed rifles in another shop but the receivcers were marked Quebec. Even my Lancaster Ross has the Hartford name on the receiver
