Ross Mark III Sniper

There is an auction in the States presently that has a Mark III Ross Rifle cut down with a Warner & Swasey scope and the vendor is trying to pass it off as an original sniper. The telescope and leather scope case is original but the rifle is NOT an original sniper. In fact the scope rubber eyepiece is a modern replacement also. I thought to post this to save me getting a half dozen mails asking for my assessment. So collectors be aware. JOHN

What’s the reason? SN range?
thought it would be rather hard to restamp the stock or scope case to match without leaving traces.
