Anyone know to what extent that Mk.II Ross was used overseas in World War One? Did they see any, or were they completely replaced by the Mk.III by then?

They were used in training camps in the UK. Cdn. 1st and 2nd Divisions were armed with the Mk. III rifle on the Western front.

Great another Ross Rifle thread. Yea, gota love the Ross.

Canada issuing service rifle to kids...

At age 15, on my summer cadet camp in Valcartier (1968), I stood in line with hundreds of other teenagers and we were issued FN C1...mine was still in the wrap...got to degrease it and then we had these in the hut on the rack...they were chained during the time we were not using them.
It certainly boosted my feeling that my country was investing in me!

Things have changed...

Sadly there are still a couple of 16 year old kids in my reserve unit.

What do you mean???

With out those 16 year old kids in the Reserves, we would probably fall apart. Remember those 18-19 year old reserves that are going over on TFA were 16 years old at one time.

There is a major difference between 16 yr olds in the Great War going to the front, and 16 yr old reservists taking DP1.

God Bless the Children

Being small helps you to miss bullets. I think this is one reason Audie Murphy lived through all the sh*t.

It's interesting the extent to which children were used in the wars of the 20th century. The Khmer Rouge used kids too.

I wonder if anyone has written a book on this.. if not I think I have my phD thesis now!

Ross MkII was used as a training rifle as late as WWII. Knowledgeable collector told me he did basic with a II* in 1942.
Saw a photo of RCR in Bermuda 1915 with a II**.

In my shop, I have a group photo of a Militia training company in June 1942, everyone one of them is armed with a Ross MKII.
