Hello I am just finishing up a mk3 restoration and I wanted to ask which of the 2 bolts that I have, should I use for the rifle. One has the rivet and the other dosen't. Since there is no serial number to match to the rifle I figure It wont matter to much which one I use. Would it be better to use the non rivet one since it is more original or is the rivet one a safer option thanks.

Clift83: I own and shoot one with a non-riveted bolt. Since you obviously understand the safety issue there is no issue. Very obvious when the bolt is properly assembled and you can easily see the lugs turning into place. I've intentionally assembled mine in the incorrect mode and would say someone would have to be on a Homer Simpson level of mechanical sympathy to manage to fire the gun this way. I'd use the one in best overall mechanical condition.

I suggest keeping the riveted bolt, for two reasons. We live in stranger and stranger times. The Interweb is reducing the amount of good quality available knowledge. If you can show a buyer that the rivet functionally prevents his mistake, you will be more likely to sell the rifle at some later date. Secondly, the rivet will keep a distant buyer, who sole source of information is a badly edited Wikipedia article that proclaims that Rosses are all unsafe and to run away in panic, from reassembling the bolt incorrectly and putting all Rosses into authoritarian peril.

I have a Wikipedia account and know how much my articles get edited after posting. Sheesh! Doesn't anyone own books?

I have both kinds of M 10 bolts. I did read that after WWI the rivets were applied. Some collectors would prefer non rivet but average people would prefer the riveted modification.
