Ross Rifle 1905 with Peep Questions

Just picked this up in a batch and Ross Rifles are not my thing. I’ve never seen a rear side mounted peep sight like this one. The rifle cocks and clicks, I took the bolt out and haven’t figured out how to put it back in. Barrel is 23 inches long with decent rifling. Is this a factory Sporter? A cut down military rifle? Any real value to it or the rear sight? Thanks in advance.

Cut down service rifle.
Before the bolt can be re-installed, you will have to pull the bolt head forward, turning it. Hold it there, push down the bolt stop, and put it back into the receiver.
I've never seen a peep sight like that.
Value of the rifle would be nominal.

A $150 rifle. maybe $200 on a good day.

Interesting example of Post WW1 Canadian hunter folk-art. The military stock has been crafted into a 1920s style hunting stock. Not much value left, how is the bore? A good bore would make an interesting restore to 1920s vintage.

With the multiple holes drilled where the correct rear sight once resided not even that much.IMO
