Ross Rifle custom?

There have been a number of threads about rebarreled Ross projects. 1910 actions are easier to rebarrel than 1905s. I've never seen a left hand conversion that didn't look like a hack job. I suppose it could be done.

The1905 Mk II** action is as easy to re-barrel as the Mk III/M10 and, in my opinion, is a much nicer and lighter action. They also have the same trigger group as the Mk III.

Yes, the II** has conventional square barrels threads like the Mk. III (1910) rifles, unlike the other 1905s with their odd left hand quick twist threads.
II** rifles do occasionally turn up in sported bubba condition. I have one that has a barrel so eroded that a .30 bullet will fall into the bore practically all the way to the rear sight. It would be a good candidate for a project.

Anyone ever make a rebarreled ross rifle?

Kinda seem like a interesting project, and able to be fairly easily converted to left handed.

Seen a few. 7 Rem Mag, 264 Win Mag, 458 Win Mag. There was an old guy in AB that did a bunch of them in the 70's, a half dozen or so ended up at Premier eventually. They were well done, and worked flawlessly. - dan

LH bolt mod shown on PP. 152 of Ross Rifle Story.
Sedgley M-10 in 30-06 for your viewing pleasure. Bolt head ring required (30-06 in this case), and of course an extended extractor head for lesser diameter cartridge.

If someone would do a rebore of .303 to .35 Winchester in Canada, I think they would do a land office business. Ross produced the '05 sporters (only) in R and E models with the 3TPI and regular thread. only difference was a reshaped mag for the longer cartridge. Can't be done on a military mag though. ....35 E example.

E Bob McCormick @ castregd@primus.ca. He has full size reprints which have better pictures than the original pub. They are somewhere south of $150 Cdn pesos but it’s been a long time.
Mention my handle and RUN! Send me your E to me here and I’ll take a pic for openers.
BTW my CO could run a MK IV LE faster and better than me from his right shoulder as a southpaw….might have had something to do with going through Italy bottom to top.

I'll do that.

I did manage to get the 3tpi thread cut figured out on my lathe just before I went MIA on the CGN scene quite a few years ago. It took some work, but if I did a few more I’d be confident in cutting the thread. So it is doable. And yes I agree the MkII action is very light and handy. One of my favourite rifles is a 1905-R Sporter. They are just fantastic.

Yes, welcome back.

Is there anyone doing rebores on Ross barrels? I have a ho-hum 1905R and a Mk.II barrel with ratty bore. Thought a rebore to .35 with a .35-.303 chamber would be quite workable. The 3 pitch 1905 barrels are easy to swap out, as was intended.
