Ross rifle hunting knife

Hey guys, im wondering what one of the converted ross rifle bayonets is worth. Ive read that along with "sporterizing alot of the rifles after the war they did the same to some bayonets. Would be kinda cool to have the sporterized bayo to go with my sporter ross.

Also where would one fine one of these?

Try your local gun show, friend. You sometimes find them there, looking all beat-to-death.

Muzzle rings generally are ground right off on these and the blades generally are shortened to somewhere from 6 to 8 inches.

A point of interest: when the Ross was withdrawn, VERY few bayonets were turned in with them. Many of the men kept them and modded the things for trench knives. If you buy one with a blade full-length or pretty close to it, you might be buying a genuine First World War trench knfe which was used for very quiet raiding into No Man's Land.

A few years ago these were a drug on the market at $25. Recently, prices have started to rise as people realise what they are and it is rare now to find a decent one at under $50 or so.

The steel in these was just wonderful, too!

I have one-apparently around 1944, a guy named W. Margolin from Quebec purchased over 2000 Ross bayonets as surplus and altered them to be sold as hunting knives in United Cigar stores. Some, like mine, were nickel plated and are a little bit heavy for a hunting knife, but they do have the "Neat-o" factor..:p

My son found one in an old basement. Not my idea of being good for anything useful. :D Don't think they are very collectible either.

Yeah i would just like to get one to pair with my sporterized ross rifle im fixing up. It cant be returned to full military so I thought it might be kind of neat to have a sporter kit lol

Out of curiosity, what would be a fair price for an unaltered ross bayonet with out the scabbard in decent shape? Patina and scratches, not sharpened.
 
Mk. I, Mk. II, Mk. II with officially reground blade, Mk. II with Royal Navy reground blade? Original WWI scabbard and frog, RN scabbard and frog, WW2 Hugh Carson replacement scabbard?
