does anyone have pics comparing an original and a sporterized ross m10?

just curious about the price difference as my stepdad has one for sale, it has the flip up rear sight and the clip?
i would like it solely for unique looking action it has
also, are they minute of target, or minute of barn?
any reply's would be appreciated
 
A service pattern Mk.III (1910) rifle is very long, with its 30 1/2 barrel. If it is sported, usually the stock is cut back, and the barrel shortened, with the front sight remounted. The rifle is still quuite heavy. An original 1910 sporting rifle is a different kettle of fish. Its barrel is much slimmer, usually 26". The front sight base is lighter, not hooded. The rear sight will be either a Winchester open sight, or an express type sight with a standing leaf and two flip ups. As far as accuracy goes, if the bore is in ice shape, the rifle will shoot well. For photos, search this site. Klunk has posted photos of a service Mk.III and a sported one. As far as price goes, sported 1910 sevice rifles have no great value $100 - $250, while a complete Mk.III service rifle can run from $300 - $800.

its definately a sporterized then, as the barrel can't be longer than 26", maybe less.
the action is just so different than anything i've seen before, do you know, is the mag removeable?

Cut wood and uncut wood
 
I rescued a Ross M10 this afternoon. It has been standing in a corner for 40 years.

The bad points.... It has cut wood like the top one in Klunks picture and the butplate is missing. The barrel has been painted with a thin coat of gloss paint and the stock is thick with old varnish.

The good points... the barrel is it's original length and there is virtually no rust, and certainly no pitting anywhere. The bore is perfect with strong sharp rifling and is lovely and shiny now that I have cleaned the dust out.

This is my project for next winter. I paid $75.
 
I was gonna say I have a M-10 "sporter" too and could email pics if necessary, but I see there are good ones up now.
 
Just fired my M10, the first time it's been fired for many a year. Well I am pleased to say that it shoots like a dream, outstandingly accurate and has a smoother action than anything I have ever handled, the trigger is also very nice. It looks like a real piece of #### though.
