Friend of mine brought this by, asked me to gauge interest in it. I had a quick look at the bore, I think it's EX, slightly dirty but think it would clean to EX. I didn't spot any issues with the gun, nice shape. I'm guessing this is probably worth at least 400 or more in here, any experience with their values that I can pass on to him? Bottom of the pistol grip is checkered!

nice rifle ,1905E factory built sporter looks to have seen very little use ,3 blade flip down rear sight and very nice walnut stock .Value?

The Scottish deer stalking rifle first came out in 1907 on a modified 1905 action, the one I have is the second from the bottom the other 2 are M10 in 280 and these do bring the value of the rifle up if it is a 280 but I do agree most were made in 303

I should have also read the title were it says 303. one thing about Ross rifles you never know what they did

The 280 was built on the M1907 action not 1905. It was similar to the 1905 but had multiple lugs on the bolt head. Not to be confused with the M1910.

I have shot the 280's but not for a long time, my project at the moment is putting a barrel into a Ruger #1 and chambering to 280 Ross, I had found a chamber reamer in a gun shop that is set up for .284 barrel.
Correct on the 1907 I should have mentioned about the bolt head and I believe the 280 match rifles were built on this action also

Don't let your friend mess with it! In particular don't let him steel wool the stock or any other such "improvements" Clean the bore, clean off the dirt from the metal and oil both, otherwise he will not only spoil a piece of Canadian history, but knock hundreds off the value.

Easily $800-$1000.

Problem is...finding someone who will pay big for the factory sporters.

The big $ is for the full wood military rifles.

So many people have seen the endless parade of sporterized Mk III's at $200 or so that they think any Ross sporter should be around there.
