Just Bought a Rossi 12 gauge with the rifled barrel. At just over 3 feet in overall length, what a weapon!! Was shooting today at 75 yards and hitting about 6 inches high. Need to site it in!!LOL
My question is has anyone ( who has or who does ) own one ever put the scope on one, and how did they like it. I think it will make a great bush gun , short, great feeling in your hands kinda , gun.
Can I have it tapped for a choke system, or will that ruin the performance of the gun , when I want to shot slugs. (I know I'd have to take the choke out and put a "blank" piece in)
Also has anyone tried the calibre insert ( the long ones ,9 plus inches that have the rifling) to change to 9mm, 410 etc.
Cheers
Brian

a rifled barreled shot gun is a one purpose tool .made to shoot slugs ,for the price of trying to put a choke in it you can buy another single shot shotgun made to shot shoot .

Thanks for the input Dutchhunter.....but not really what I was looking for. And Yes I could go buy another single barrel shotgun. There cheap, but I like the shot gun I have and way just looking / asking if anyone had done it , and yes the cost of the choke installation and the choke will be worth more than the price of the gun, but that OK with me.
Cheers

Dutch hunter is right. You need to pick up a smooth bore barrel to utilize a choke system. After all, chokes only serve to tighten or loosen scatter shot patterns. That one you have is purpose built for a single projectile and yes, a good smith could mount a scope on it which is always beneficial.

a scope will be somewhat useless in the brush and a choke is pointless as even with it the shot will spin from the rifling twist and in turn it will make the shot pattern donut. im sure a rossi could have a second smooth bore barrel fitted id also have express sights added if its going to be a true "brush gun" they give you a fast sight picture

I've never heard of that!!! Make sense...How come Bownells sell rifle chokes then? And I've been looking for a suppler for Rossi barrels, I would like a rifle caliber barrel. But no success as of yet. If someone know where I could get barrels for my Rossi, any help would be great appreciated.
Cheers

rifled chokes are for shooting sabot slugs out of a smooth bore gun. a rifle caliber barrel would not work on a shotgun action without bushing the firing pin channel. you would have to contact rossi to get a barrel most likely then have a licensed exporter export it from the US then have it fitted

I've shoot both 9mm and 45 acp out of the gun ,with no problems. Why would the firing pin have to be bushing? I know that the rifle calibers have a higher psi rating. But that is adsorb mostly in the barrel walls, unless the head spacing is too large and allow the cartridge to slide back, creating a unsupported area at the end of the cartridge causing a blow out at the head of the shell casing.
I will email Rossi to try and find a Canadian dealer for part.

the pressure is not absorbed by the barrel the action is there for a reason and it takes most of the pressure. the reason for bushing the firing pin is to make the firing pin hole smaller this will make sure primers don't flow into the firing pin hole. id also say stop using sub caliber adapters in a rifled barrel gun its a good way to screw up something

Which model Rossi? It one of the H&R Handi-rifle copies? I suspect(can't find anything on Rossi's USA site about extra barrels at all.) that like the H&R Handi-Rifle extra barrels must be fitted in the factory/warrantee shop. I think North Sylva is the Canadian distributor, so you could contact them. Or try Epp's. Epp's is a Rossi dealer.
Don't think a sub-calibre device will bother a rifled barrel, but like antiqueguy says, it ain't the barrel. Neither a 9 mm or .45 has a great deal of pressure anyway.
No chokes on a rifle either. A rifled shotgun barrel is just a very large bored rifle. The shot string out of one flies in a spiral, sending the shot all over creation and leaving big holes in the pattern that antiqueguy mentions.

I have the factory 12 gauge 3 inch chamber model ,with the rifled barrel. The model number is : sp621516 when you go to Rossi site ,it comes up as a 2005 model.
Any yes on finding no extra barrel on Rossi site. I wonder if an H&R barrel would work? I wouldn't expect a new barrel to be just a "bolt on" I would think a little fitting would be in order
As far as the firing pin bushing , the firing pin hole is very small just like the firing pin, a very nice fit. The gun itself is very well built. Opens and closes very smooth, and very tight , with no side to side movement at all.
All in All, is a $200.00 gun......so
Cheers
