I bought the Rossi with 16" barrel about 6 months ago and absolutely love. But was wondering if anyone has tried hunting with one out there? An also if they have done any reloads for hunting in 357 maybe someone out there may have some tips for me? Anyone out there that has done any hunting with a 357 what did they think of it?

Any info would be welcome

What do you mean by "hunting"? I think mine is a pretty good coyote and beaver rifle, but marginal for anything bigger. At less than 100 yds or so, broadside lung shots, with 158 gr. hard cast or jacketed soft points, not light hollow points, it might just do OK for whitetail deer. I might even use mine for that purpose for the first time this fall. But a fully capable and versatile deer or bigger game round? nope.
A fast, accurate hand load that I like and use is 16.5 gr. W296, sp mag primer, and the Hornady 158XTP. It clocks 1750 fps from my Rossi M92 rifles 20" barrel. Yours would be a tad slower.

Treat it like a bow and you can hunt deer just fine.

Or treat it like a .357mag shooting 158gr bullets at 1750fps. I'm OK with a bow but for hunting it would be 20 yards and under with a bow.....pretty sure I could extend that range by a factor of 3 with a .357 carbine.

People hunt deer with .357 mag revolvers, why not rifles? Some loads put it in the lower end of .30-30 power. Now my .44 rifles with the right loads... :)

Took a 200 lbs buck with Rossi 357 last year ,25 yard neck shot , broke the spine DRT. The bullet only made it a couple inches past the spine into the muscle , it lost its jacket and flattened out like a dime .the problem is a rifle pushes a pistol bullet faster than it was designed for . This was a seirra 158 gr JSP in a handload . They were going over the chronograph at 1825 fps . When I take it hunting again it will be with a tougher bullet in a handload , or with hornady LEVERevolution ammo

At first I thought maybe he meant 3 Factorial (i.e. 3!) when he suggested 8000, but 3! = 6 = 3x2x1. (in lieu of a "factor of 3", and trying to be "cute")

Then I thought maybe he miscalculated 20 factorial (20!), which equals 2,432,902,008,176,640,000. Nope.

Then I thought maybe 20! to the third digit. Nope. 20x19x18=6,840.

So no idea how he got to 8000. Sorry.

Elementary my dear, Watsons!
A factor of 3 would be 20 with an exponent of 3.
20^3
20 x 20 x 20
20 x 20 = 400
400 x 20 = 8,000

Try some Speer 170 gr. Deepcurl SP bullets. These wont shed their jackets so easy and would be good for deer & black bear inside of 75 yds. You can get around 1700 fps. with H110 without pushing the pressures too much from a 20" barrel.

I figured it must be exponential growth of some sort.
Warp factor 10 must be pretty damn fast!

Google this Sherlock, :)
"by a factor of"
