Rossi 92 Ranch Hand 45 Colt impressions

So is that buttstock and aftermarket? Come with the brass butt?

My Ranch hands NEED functional buttstocks.....they are currently fairly silly with the oem mares leg.....I can make hits on human sillouetes offhand centre mass at 20m but anything finer than that is tough.
I have a 44 and 357 version.
The 44 is a great sleeping bag/tent weapon for predator protection and it's size/shape/performance is suitable....altho a 8 or 12in 870 also suits and is a lil more snag proof coming out of a sleeping bag.

Looking for buttstock options for these rifles?
Boyds or ??

LUV that walnut brass butted version .....:)

I fabbed up an old piece of treated 2x4 screwed to the factory stubb and a butler creek slip on recoil pad secured on the side with screws and washers. Looks bad, feels good, especially for a hurting budget. Saved 1 1/2" of overall length over a factory stock. Rusty Wood Trading carries full length stocks, but out right now.

For my Rossi .45 Ranch Hand, I went with the rear aperture sight from Steve's Guns that replaces the safety. Easy install and with the factory tall front post I find my poa=poi at 50 yards with a moderate load of 8.5 grains of Unique under a 250gr bullet. I have the Pearson rail and while it looks like a solid option for a low mounted red dot or see all sight, I prefer the reliability of the irons. I currently have the boyd's butt stock on mine but it's easy to switch back and forth as needed by just removing the one screw.

The last time I had it out to the range my shooting friend and myself had a great time lobbing in those 250gr projectiles at rocks at 200 yards with repeatable accuracy using the middle of the front sight as an aiming point. Lots of fun

I got my butt stock from Precision Gun Works & made the butt plate from 1/8" brass flat bar stock. Had to make a thick plywood form to shape it on, but it fits well. I'm gonna finish contour the bugger one day just to get that old time quality look into 'er. Fer now though, everything is hunky dory.:)

Bush carry impressions

Had the Rossi Ranchhand 92 45Colt out for 4 days while bowhunting. 250gr plated Campros over 26gr H110(rifle/Ruger load, yes, by the manual) will exit a 10" live poplar tree same diameter as the entrance. Will not exit a 14" poplar tree. The Rossi reddish finish lightly stains your hands when the rifle gets wet. Incredibly handy to carry, will be my hiking rifle. Light, 12" barrel makes carrying and unobtrusive storage very simple. Action likes some lube and when confident cycling runs without a hiccup. Exactly what I wanted, I paid $700, $900 is but rich but our options are limited in Canada. I will chrono at some point for curiosities sake.

50 rnds really slicked up the action. It wasn't bad out of the box, noticeably smoother after a box of ammo. The only feeding issues (2) were when I didn't fully open the action with the rediculous large loop. The last 1/4" of lever rotation opening the action is important. I took the ramp out from under the rear sight. With the front bead in the bottom of the rear buckhorn it was hitting 2" high @15yd, 4" high@50 yds. I added a 5 1/2" extension to the stock, including a cut down slip on recoil pad. I countersunk 1/4" lag bolts from the back, into pilot holes drilled in the factory stubb stock. All in all, exactly what I was looking for. The shortest legal and practical package to carry with enough power to be useful. 45 Colt reloads are even, or sometimes a bit ahead of 44 MAG loads. No, not beyond max 45 loads, just beyond what old guns and flat top revolvers are good for.

The nice thing about .45LC is that you can achieve .44 magnum velocities using the same bullet weights with less chamber pressure, due to case volume. (25K versus 34K PSI, as I recall.)

Sorry, no chrono #'s today. Apparently a 375 does in fact kill a chrono. Looking for parts. Got the Rossi dialed in for 30yd buckhorn sight picture, shooting 3" groups off a rest. My eyes are much less able than 20yrs ago I guess.
