Rossi Puma .44 Mag

A problem could stem from the fact that the Yanks have classified these as handguns, albeit to get out of having them restricted and subject to the $200 stamp. Nevertheless we might find ourselves dealing with monkey see, monkey do...

I may have a couple of bits of info for you tomorrow....just need to confirm it...

ARRRRRGGH!!!! - i hate it when he does these cliffhangers :D

Well, that's me not sleeping tonite. (hope it's good news!)

Wanted to post two bits of info together but only have one confirmed at the moment...
Good news: If the Firearms Office does classify as "restricted" we have the ability to go to Rossi and get a exclusive Canadian stock 2.5" longer than the current Ranch Hand stock...My distributor confirmed this with a Rossi engineer at SHOT.

may delay production a bit though....

more info to follow...

I suppose that if they have to bring them in with a longer stock, we could always order a 'standard' stock for those who were willing to defend that in court later and they could use that. the rcmp is still wrong if they say it needs to be longer.

Well if it's going to cost us more...why not get them to send a regular butt and the standard mare's leg.
Then each person can decide how they want to run it as a non or restricted simply by swapping the butts.....
I still plan on running it with a full stock so I'd prefer that route and it would still let people cut them down if they want the Mare's leg look.... Rossi could even include the Mare's butt plate to ease the conversion.

Gary, any plans on bringing in some stainless trappers?
If so which calibers are available? ( Stainless trapper)

I'll look at them for sure!!

We could also look at the Trail judge a 410 mare's Leg That could also be a fun gun. Everybody seems to be on the look out for a discountinued Winchester mod 94 .410.

How about checking availibility for us canuck?

Ho yeah I forgot. I would prefer to go the 2.5 inch extra stock plus the possibility of extra reg. stock if it comes to that. But I think, (hope) it wont come to that!

I don't like the idea of chopping my own stock and having to try to fit the brass buttplate.

Plus - we'd still have to chop it down to the extra 2.5 inch length anyway. The law does say that if it comes from the factory shorter that's fine, but you can't shorten a gun by 'alteration' to below the minimum length. Adding a shorter factory-made stock is different.

God our laws are screwed up.

even though this is conjecture from the shotshow thread I thought I would post it here:

Apparently these rossi ranch hand rifles are non-restricted due to some pre-existing law, and until they decide to change the law these should be classified as non-res.

if this is true put me down for pre-order!

EDIT:

http://www.ellwoodepps.com/firearms_new_rifles_lever_1.htm

elwood has some more expensive ones, different brand but my point is they are NON-RESTRICTED!!!!! YAY!!!!!

Well everything points to the idea that it should be non restricted, but god knows common sense and law have never stopped the rcmp before...

well since supposedly in the law it states that these specific types of rifles should be non-res I think we should be fine. if it doesnt work out I will just have to fork out the extra cash to get a longer version. but if someone has a good reliable brand that is fairly priced (like the rossi for a proposed $650) I will surely support that dealer.

the ranch hand should be non-res even with the short stock

the sh!t we have to deal with from the RCMP... someone should take that to court or something if they say it has to be extended even if we are forced for now to extend the stocks, reguardless of how much more practical a longer stock would be we need to defend the fact that we shouldn't have to lengthen the stock.
