Rossi Puma 92 problem

Its sure is!!! During the Cowboy TV craze in the late '50's/ early '60's when in a 7 day period there were at one point 157 cowboy shows on TV, it was a common thing for gunsmiths to convert Winchester M92's in .38-40 to .357 and .44-40's to .44 Magnum. Nothing like giving an old rifle a new life. My 1902 Winchester is the 3rd from the top

+1 on OAL for the 92 Puma.
I have had all of the same problems, stovepiping and ejecting live rounds and so on. I made sure I started loading at 1.53" OAL and I got the Nate Kiowa Jones DVD, Magazine spring & SS folower kit. I took it to a good gunsmith and the rifle has been working beautifully since.
I have since bought a new 66 and spent mega $$$ getting it slicked up, but my 92 is staying with me. It will remain my backup rifle, plus my wife likes it!
All in all you can't find a better cowboy rifle for the price.
Just my $0.02

.... Could it be the Plastic Magazine follower is binding a little, and not feeding properly ? ...... If so, there is a "after market" replacement available. .... David K

There is a place called Steve's Gunz (Google it) in the states that sells the metal magazine followers to replace the cheap yellow plastic ones the Rossis ship with.

The yellow plastic follower disintegrates in the presence of oil and breaks apart in the magazine tube allowing live rounds of ammo to be pushed back into the receiver.

Most Rossi 92's are OAL sensitive. You can use .38 spl if you ensure that the OAL exceeds 1.5" or greater. Try it, it will work but, you have to remember that with a Rossi 92 you have to lever it with authority. If you lever it in a candy a$$ way, it will probable stove pipe or just jam.

This seems to be the case with my 38/357. You gotta punch that lever like it's the most important part of the shooting sequence or it won't elevate the next round into position. I got quite good at clearing jams while not taking the rifle off my shoulder at a match in May. Not the same problem as yours but thought I'd mention it.

Other than that, I like my Rossi a lot!
