How good is the Rossi Puma R92 ?

I am loking at on in the 357mag, but would like to hear comments on all of the calibres. I am loking to use it for Cowboy Action Shooting.

I already own a Wicnester 94 30-30 I purchased in the 70's for hunting, so do not need anything larger.

Thanks.

Kevin

They are great guns but not always great out of the box..... somewhat inconsistent quality control. It's best to handle them in person before buying or ask for an inspection period and ask good questions up front.
Lots of people use them for cowboy shootings and they can be slicked up to be very smooth and reliable.
The worst issue to watch for in my opinion is barrels that are indexed poorly resulting in iron sights that are canted to the side. I'd imagine the ocatagon barrled models are more consistent in their indexing due to the flats. A nice case colored, octagon barreled Rossi .357 would be a sweet cowboy setup!

RustyWoods down in the fraser valley does work on Rossi's for cowboy shooters if you don't want to do your own work and there is a guy in the states that is very friendly and helpful and has parts and tuneup kits available.

I have the stainless model in .357. Shoots good, cycles nice and a fairly decent trigger. Its a nice handling rifle for fast plinking and gopher shooting. The only 'issue' for mine is the extractor has a tendency to make slight brass filings when cycling fast. Its kinda understandable, I do get a little rough with it sometimes. I often get the idea that I should open it up and deburr any rough edges there might be. You know, just for fun. I think it would be pretty slick action then. Im pretty happy with mine. I didnt know anyone that had one to try before I bought mine but im sure happy with it. FWIW

I have one. My buddy put in a kit that came with various springs, etc., and a video. It works like a charm. I have only used it for killing jugs and the odd rock. I also have a Chiappa .44 Mag lever. Both have fairly long barrels and are a dream to shoot.

Although I have never hunted deer with either, I like the idea and may just do that before the grim reaper makes his call. :p

I have had 5 of them now and each one was a great little rifle. The last one I bought has been the smoothest lever I have ever used/owned. I have 3 Uberti's a Marlin and 2 1894 Win and it is by far the nicest to cycle. Only real complaint I have is their choice of wood on their stocks blows the big one, but if you are OK with that then I'd say buy one and don't look back.

I have the .38 / .357 Stainless 92 with 16" barrel. It cycles all 38's that I have tried perfectly. It cycles CCI Blazer hollow point 357 magnum like a dream, but the American Eagle 357's are rough going in. Does anyone know if this can be fixed?
