Really want one of these, maybe two.:D

wanstalls is thinking about bringing them in i believe - they have a subforum in the dealer's section discussing this.

Frankly i don't see why they couldn't be aimed from eye level - i can pretty much do that with my rossi 16 inch 44 mag (which this is based on). And you can likely get speeds of around 1500 fps out of that barrel with handloads and 240 grain bullets - there's no bear in the world who won't feel that.

Even better - you can load shotshells for it. They may them for handloaders, you just fill the container with shot and load it like you would any bullet. So - a fun little grouse-getter too and a decent 'survival' gun for the hiker. (assuming it's a 12 inch barrel. Can't hunt with less in bc).

If you do a proper action job on it you'd probably be surprised how easy and fast it would be to cycle.

Sure - a pistol would be nicer but until we can carry those i'd take a mare's leg in a heart beat.

I'd less to see less "talk" and more action on someone importing these.

I'd pre-order mine today if I could. An affordable Mare's leg is the one gun I've that really peaks my interest.

I'm looking into the technical needs for that, but I found that 100 rounds down the pipe has smoothed it Waaaaaaaay out. Its slick now.

it's a shame because we are all desperate to carry anything close to a handgun in the bush, but i think i'd rather have a real rifle than put my faith in that little thing. i can shoulder, shoot, and cycle my 444 plenty quick and accurate. i doubt there would be much benefit to carrying this over a real rifle or pistol.
A proper 44mag revolver is what i really want... im not going to kid myself into thinking this is even close to carrying a pistol. the whole benefit to a handgun is that it can be carried in comfort on your hip and accessed easily and quick. the ranch hand looks like it would need a huge holster compared to a pistol and would take up most of my thigh. if my life was in jeopardy i'd feel alot safer with a proper shouldering rifle with a longer sight radius.

That being said i'd still want one for doing the "terminator cycle". it looks like it would be a fun conversation piece besides it's impracticality.

This seems to be the "best" alternative to a high power handgun we can legally, easily, carry here.

As to method of carry I plan to make a holster/scabbard to attach to the side of my small daypack and draw the gun over the shoulder... Or I am planning up a leg rig that would work real well too!

found some info on the ranch hand .

it seems that taurus and rossi have joined forces , which leaves puma out of the mix now .
you can't get a " rossi puma " anymore , any puma now out are made by chiappa , and unfortunatly they want huge amounts of money for a puma mares leg .

a rossi ranch hand seems to be going as cheaply as 400.00 ( ht tp://www.hinterlandoutfitters.com/rossi-model-ranch-hand-lever-action-pistol-rh9257121-long-colt-hardwood-grip-blue-finish-p-27936.html )

msrp is 536.00

and here is a link to what rossi and taurus will be bringing us in the near future ;

so for anyone wanting to sell rossi's , i hope the part numbers in the links can help you .

i'm wondering who sells / distibutes taurus's in canada , they may be a source for the ranch hand

Before considering taking something like this into the bush I'd have to try it out quite a bit myself or at the very least I'd need the opinion of someone that I respect when it comes to firearms knowledge.

RIght now all I see is a fun "movie" gun, not some huge improvement in portability (and especially dependability) over a WInchester 94 TRapper with a 16" barrel.

i'm thinking of putting a full stock on it , or maybe a full stock just cut down a inch or so .

i've got one with a 20 inch barrel and it is just a bit too long for my pack .

how much better handling would your 94 trapper be with 4 inches cut off of the barrel , and a inch or 2 out of the butt stock ?

Hard to imagine it handling any better than it does. I hardly notice it when I carry it in the thick bush.
:)

A full stock and a smaller lever and the name "Winchester" on that firearm, and for sure we have something useful.;)
