So I have a Rossi Ranch hand chambered in .45 Colt a fun little "Cowboy gun" but what is not fun is the sights so as I want to keep a lower profile to the rifle I was looking at putting lower cut rear sight. I was thinking of this one; Marble Arms Flat Top Sporting Rear Sight but what dove tail will I need and will this do or will I need a taller front sight? If I do need a new front sight, what specs should I get?

Any other tips to making the rifle a good shooter with out re-stocking it would be well taken.

Skinner Sights has custom packages made just for this reason, great company to deal with, easy to install, and ships to canada :D
The owner also has a great dvd of how to slick the action up and make it the best it can be, its a great little project.
Theres a ton on info about working on them in the Rossi Ranch hand / mares leg thread under the wanstalls dealer page.. somehow thier thread turned into 3000 posts about how awesome it is lol

Go to the 'Bargain Store' by a set of die-makers files and deepen the rear notch a tad.
Shoot it with a fine bead. Maybe deepen it a tad more.
I shoot gophers with mine in 44 magnum ( Full length buttstock from RustyWood tho), seems to work OK

This is one thing I am looking at doing the other is filing my own front sight out of a brass block.

I removed the elevator and dremeled down the notch to get a ranchhand to hit point of aim at 25 yards but you end up with a low sight line and no ability to raise the rear sight easily.
You should pick a bead style that you like ( fibre optic , brass or white bead) and get the tallest one you can.
Then you can choose a rear sight or run the stock rear the way it should have come from the factory!
It's all covered in the epic thread and someone really should condense the info down to one sticky!
Shellshucker has all the parts numbers from brownells I believe.

I'd like to change the rear stock on my 357 ranch hand to a true 'handgun' style grip. Anyone know of a store/supplier that carries a replacement like this?

What do you mean by "handgun" style grip Oldman?
Are you talking about a curved pistol grip like on most Marlins compared to a straight stocked Winchester?
Or do you actually mean a true handgun vertical grip?
