Finally got out and shot the Rossi yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how well it shoots. My only complaint is that the sights can't be adjusted to get it shooting low enough at 50 yards. It's still about 6" high at that range even though I removed the elevation rail from the rear sight. It looks like a front sight modification is in order. Has anyone else experienced this or found a solution? The little .44 mag definitely packs a punch.
 
I had the same problem with a Henry 22 LR I bought new. I contacted Henry and they sent me several front and rear sights that I was able to correct the problem with. I was happy with the good support they gave and how quick they were. Shoot Rossi an e-mail and see if they will help you out.

Set your settings to 50 posts per page and start around post #1901 to save yourself a few days of reading!

All the Ranchhands shoot high. I also removed the elevator and then ground out the buckhorn to lower the notch till I got it to hit point of aim at 25 yards.

It works but a better solution is a much higher front sight. You can get sights around .5" that will be better but really to me these guns need a sight base to raise the dovetail up at least 1/4" to 3/8" and then there would be more options for the sight it self.

There is a HUGE thread about the Rossi Ranch hand in Wanstall's section of the dealer forum ... and the issue with the sights is thoroughly addressed. Steve's Gunz seems to have the best solution so far ...

Yikes 223 pages...anyone remember the answer to the sight delemma off hand?
 
My full size Rossi 92 had the same problem with sights that were shooting way too high, period. I eventually bubba'd up an aperture sight on the rear and a higher front sight.

Steve's Gunz is the go-to website for Rossi fans. I've ordered his a-bit-taller fiber optic front sight and his low flat-top rear sight. They're being installed and tested (I hope) as I write this. I also purchased a Skinner's rear peepsight to experiment with ... as a second option.

Not sure if this was already covered but I have a 16" Rossi 44 that shot high with factory sights, I put a Skinner barrel mount peep and a .5 front post and it shoots fine now.

Ya, I kind of got overwhelmed by the amount of info in that thread but thanks for the help. I might try filing the rear sight first and if that isn't satisfactory, I guess I'll spend the $60 on new sights from Steve's. Sucks that Rossi is selling the rifle with this obvious flaw and doing nothing to correct it.

I have a Rossi 16" that came with a taller front sight then the Ranchhand.....it would still be a bit to low but the fact they have taller options then what they install on the Ranchhand is beyond comprehension!

The tallest front sight you can find is a good start!

I did get mine to work with the stock sight but the sight line is very low and just above the receiver where it joins the barrel.

A ramp or base is needed on the barrel in my opinion.
