I'm thinking I should get one in .357 and add a carbine butt to it. Handy little package.

I go to look online. Cheapest I've seen is Epps at under $460 (but out of stock on .357's), next best price loos to be about $526 at Wolverine, then the prices get stupid.

Some dealers I used to think were competitive have them from $599 to $640 for what looks like the same gun.

Am I missing anything here? Are these not all the same model from the same manufacturer (nope, not mistaking the Rossi's for the Chiappas), or is there another difference I am not grasping?

Who would pay $599 (prophet river) or even $640 (Frontier & Wantsall) for one of these when the same thing is in stock and available for $180 less? Is there a factor I've overlooked?

Where are guys usually picking these up for the best deal?

I've been looking into a lot of different lever rifles lately and noticed the same thing with pricing - all over the map.

I plan on buying one next year for my clients to shoot. Nice to know Epps has them for a good price. Not sure why the other guys have a bigger markup!

We purchase from the Canadian Distributor and the new stock is a lot more , and we are supposed to stay within the canadian pricing. (freedom ventures, $599.00) Current whole cost is more than Epps is currently selling them.

Pretty sure neither EPPs or Wolverine show stock on the .357 so pricing is pretty much irrelevant. Trying to get another vendor to match a price on something that doesn't exist... Good luck. Anything in a 44mag or 45lc are most likely old stock hence the old pricing. The only place I found that actually HAS inventory on the .357 was SFRC. I grabbed one when they had the long weekend sale. It was $48 off the current price. Best deal I could find.

Fwiw, epps had a couple .357s left until earlier this week, but I missed them. For $180, I'll maybe opt for a .44 and be done with it. The new wholesale price is highway robbery by FV IMHO.

The 20" and 16" versions are over $100 cheaper at wholesale, so I'm there nking we're being gouged.

ok, for those who might care, after 3 days of phoning EVERYONE who stocks Rossi (that I could determine) in Canada, the cheapest .357 Ranch Hands are sold at:

- Epps for $459, but out of stock for forceable future.
- Wolverine for $529, but out of stock for the forceable future.
- The Gun Dealer in NB, $549, but out of stock for the next 2 weeks.
- Dante Sporting Goods in Qc, $549 and in stock. This is where I just placed my order online.

Everyone else is charging the Freedom Ventures extrusion price of $599+ for guns that retailed for $460 MSRP until about 6 months ago.

Hope that's helpful to someone.

The Ranchhand is one of the rare unique guns I can think of that entered into the Canadian market at an Ok price, then actually dropped in price, then maintained that price of a few years.
I still see the .45 colts come up at retailers for just over $500 but I'm guessing any .357's will be coming in fresh with inflation and exchange rates and probably won't be just over $500.

If you want to leave a Ranchhand in stock form the .357 is the one to get in my opinion.... easy to handle recoil and very fun to shoot.
The .44 requires a bit more strength to shoot well and is probably better off with a butt stock for most people.

I ordered one form Epps last night. IN 45 Colt, which is what I wanted anyway. :)

I think you are going to like it...specially with "cowboy loads"
You might as well order a tall front sight for it now and perhaps a lower rear sight if you don't want to dremel out the one that Rossi provides.

Get the tallest sight you can in what ever style you prefer.

The mega thread needs to be mined for data and that information summarized in a sticky on the Ranch hand.
PM ShellShucker he has all the product code number from Brownells.

damn it!
by the time i got home to order a 44 from Epps, they were sold out!

I guess I will have to wait till one pops on EE for a reasonable price.
I find 600$ a bit overpriced for this rifle

I suspect folks will be selling them on the EE for $650 after they use them a bit... somehow that seems to add value around here.
