Hey guys I was looking at the Rossi rifles in 45-70 but I don't know anything about the quality of the rifles. I push a lot of bush in moose season but my 30-06 isn't the ideal setup so I want to replace it.I had my heart set on a marlin 1895 guide gun but I'm having a hard time finding one. So lets hear the pros and cons of the rossi. Thsnks guys

I don't know about the 45/70 but I've got the .44 ranch hand and it's a great little carbine. Good action, solid built.

I've had a couple Rossi 92's, and have a Ranch Hand now. They seem to vary in quality from decent to complete crap. I'm lucky...my Ranch Hand .44 seems to be one of the good ones, but there are some very poor reviews being posted as well. If I wanted a levergun to which I might someday have to trust an important shot...i.e. just about any big game shot...I would personally continue to look for a nice pre-Remington Guide Gun, or another older Marlin 1895. Just my 2 cents.

I have a 92 in 44mag (20" stainless), it's not the most recent models (doesn't have the safety) and I've been very impressed so far. Fit and finish is good, action is slick, trigger feels good. My only complaint is the irons shoot high, but I'm sure I can tweak the rear sight (or upgrade) and resolve the issue. As others have said, the quality seems to vary.

In all the gun forums around on the world wide web There seems to be no end of advice and solutions to fix or improve your Rossi. I have 2 of them and it seems to be matter of course. But then again you get what you pay for and They will never be an older model Winchester or Marlin in intrinsic or retained value. If I were going to buy just one ; It wouldn't be a Rossi unless it was used and the previous owner had done all the fixing slicking sight changing wood finishing etc etc etc..
Once you have that all done though you might end up with a slick little shooter that you have more time and money invested in that you'll never get out in trade-in or resale. I prefer my Winchesters

I forgot to mention there are no parts for Rossi Rifles in Canada; so I 've heard and read on various forums anyway. Not real handy for repair. Reminds me of some East European Cars they used to sell, couldn't get parts either but then they weren't built for longevity either. I guess thats why there are so many self help topics on Rossi on the forums.
