Rossi riot 12g handgun

Kinda why I started this cus seams like a pretty big gray area I would still like to get one just because why not but it would be nice if it was legal right?

Nothing at all wrong with "because why not?". We're all doing this for our own amusement after all.

But you'll need to look at other options as it is simply not legal for you or your local gunsmith to convert a gun like this. It's really not a grey area at all once you realize that only companies with a certain status can do this sort of thing. The original importer got away with it because of their importer/distributor/manufacturer/original source/or other status that we and our local smiths do not have. Best of luck with the search for the next "hand cannon".

they have a little blurb on their Facebook page about the Rossi shotgun pistol here in Canada.
The Canadian Gun Vault Inc.

The world of Canadian Firearm ownership is an interesting and diverse place indeed. These Rossi Shotguns entered into Canada as Non Restricted firearms and were sold as such until the government realized that they were just under the recognized legal length to qualify.

They were quickly re-categorized as restricted firearms and placed into the same classification as hand pistols. Ulimately most of the examples were returned to dealers and only a small handful remained in the possession of enthusiasts.

5 known examples were re-classified again when the barrels were shortened and the necessary authorization was obtained from the RCMP using legitimate channels .....to turn them into the Rossi Shotgun pistol seen on our YouTube channel.

so ya, only 5 of them in Canada.
shame, when i saw this i was like, yup, want, and fished my CC out of my pocket and was all ready to order one!
haha!

probably a good thing ya cant get them, my wrists would not be happy with me i fear!

That last link just above is broken.

In the Gun Vault video it sounded like he knew the details and said that there were only 5 that got CONVERTED. The rest stayed as whatever length they were made in. So unless your link that goes to a "white page" with nothing on it has other info it would seem like there are only 5.

from what i can gleam from what they are talking about only 5 got converted to the short barrel.
the rest are probably still full length with just under the 18" restricted shotguns.

be interesting to know why they only converted 5?
seems like if you where gonna go through all the paperwork and such you'd do them all at the same time, save on time and paperwork.

you can see here is what they guns look like (the other ones other than the 5 that got shortened)

Because only 3 guys worked there, and after they broke 5 of their 6 wrists doing the test fire for each unit, they stopped so the last guy still had an unbroken hand to fill out the worker's comp paperwork. Obviously. :p

They probably realized just how mental an idea it was. That, or the Lawyer they retain told them it was a good idea to stop.

I can assure the OP of one thing, you don't want to develop problems with your wrist. It's all fun and games until someone looses an eye, or in this case develops a long term problem with your hand/wrist. You suddenly become aware of just how much stuff you do with your hands...

i know this is an old thread, but my interest in these has just become re-freshed...I have one of the originals bought 'n paid for, just waiting on the transfer. new, unshot, fresh in the box :)
my understanding of the original story is they originally came into the country NR...and a shytload were sold. that's when the brass realized they made a huge mistake and re-classified them R...those that bought them were returning them like crazy to avoid charges or to bother with going to the R level of licensing.

and yes, there are 5 shorties...it's my understanding special permission was granted and work was completed by a local gunsmith

they are fun, me and my brother own 2 of them, full length (18' barrel) blued models. we have 2, the gunvault has 1, a private guy has the shortened one from the gun vault and only rumors of 1 other still floating around Canada.

there were about 250 made, they were originaly non-restricted, but then they switched it to restricted shortly before scrapping the long gun registry, since most people who had them didn't have restricted licences its said that they got handed in and destroyed, that's why thee is said to be only 5 left (4 that I know of, and rumors of another but unsure who has it) before they changed the class, we use to take it out hunting all the time, was a awesome compact grouse gun. they came with sling mounts so just sling it on your back or just hang it under your shoulder, quick to load and shoot. ours took countless hens and a couple rabbits.
