Rossi single shot trouble

Hi,

i have a rossi shingle shot 12 gauge. It is a break action but the leaver to open it will not open it anymore. The leaver moves very freely.

any idea why?

I tried to gently drift the pins the hold it togeather out but no luck.

What should i try next?

Is i even worth fixing?
 
Hi

i had sometime today so i took kamlookys suggestion and attacked it from the back.

I got the stock off and managed to pry th forend off, but it still wont unlock.

I treid to press the pins out with no luck. I could try hammering on them.

I could try to compress the two springs but i dont that will help.

any ideas?

Is there any movement of the smaller spring when you try the release lever?
Can get some needle nose vice grips on that rectangular piece of metal and pull or lever it to the rear?

It sounds like the lever has become disconnected from that block of steel with the smaller spring.

I would try and get that little spring out if you can't open the action by pulling the rectangular metal piece to the rear.
Usually there is a small hole in the shaft the spring rides on so you can capture the spring under tension with a drill bit or small pin.
You can see a round notch for the bigger spring but it looks like the smaller one might get pinned from the rear below the number 3.

It looks like with the right screw driver you might be able to pry it back using the receiver as leverage.... a piece of leather, plastic, wood or even several layers of electrical tape to protect the metal where you are prying would be easy enough.

Can you see any of the locking lug when you look back from where the fore end usually sits?

Have you tried prying it back a bit or grabbing it with some vice grips?
Might be easier if you remove the hammer spring first, #### the hammer, insert a pin through the retention hole and release the hammer.....
 
The space is very tight. Too tight for any of my 7 vice grips and i cant see a way to get in front of it to push it back

i tried to move it side to side.
 
So i finally go it apart.

It was very dirty with a lot of old grease in it. Even a few pine needles!

there is one spring that is bent. See photo. Not sure if it should be tht way?

The bent spring looks like it's for the trigger, or maybe the sear, probably got bent when you took it apart.
Everything else in you picture looks OK, how are the rest of the parts?
Maybe it was just dirty and seized up? Clean it up and reassemble..... :)
 
So i cleaned all the parts and bentthe spring back.

No i just need to get it back togeather..... 30 minutes into that task and not further ahead. Any pointers?
 
I am giving up for today.

i am pretty sure i know how it functions but i am not sure of the order it should go back togeather. The hammer sping is so stiff that no matter what i do i cant get it reassembled.

i googled my butt off but i cant find any videos are proper diagrams.

When these situations arise, the best thing to do when frustrated is to place the parts aside and step away.......
