I have a question for anyone who has experience with these types of guns Henry Mare's leg in 45 colt Vs. Rossi Ranch hand in same caliber. Is the Henry worth the extra 400$ ?

the henry's action is made out of brass ......

the rossi's action is made out of steel , and is chambered in 454 casull in the fullsize 1892 rifles .
factory 45 colt is 14,000 psi , factory 454 casull is 65,000 psi .

if your going to restrict yourself to the low pressure 45 colt rounds either will do the job ...... if you want to hotrod the 45 colt round , go with the rossi action .

The fit and finish is probably more consistent on the Henry's. Rossi's can be a little hit and miss on quality control and could need some minor tweeks. The Rossi's are a bit lighter and sleeker and are 1892 clones.
A rossi 92 is a bit like a Norinco 1911 pretty good value and a great platform that just might need a little tune up or it might be great out of the box.
If you like the brass look I don't think you will be unhappy with the Henry and I haven't heard of any problems shooting hotter loads but I haven't searched out much on the Henry's as I don't like the gold look myself.

What im interested in is something like a Mare's leg, In a larger Caliber. The only two manufactures I have found are Rossi and Henry, I think if Marlin made one I would be all over it. Plus the largest caliber I have seen is the 45 colt, if anyone knows of other manufactures that produce a small lever like a Mare's leg, I would love to know.

CHIAPPA makes a mares leg almost identical to the rossi but with a bit better finish on the stocks but more money.

I personally would take the Rossi, I do/have owned several and enjoyed them.

The metal on my Rossi was decent. The stock had some sanding marks still on it. It shot pretty high and it was difficult to shoot well because of the design. I think I'll get a winchester 92 trapper to replace it.

I have a rossi in 44 mag trapper - I have found it to cycle beautifully and have no issues with it at all - fit and finnish very acceptable.

The henry is smoother out of the box and prettier. An evening with a dremel and polishing wheel will get the rossi feeling the same(or better) or if you aren't terribly concerned about it just use as is.

Fit and finish on the Rossi is lower for sure but once again some sandpaper and an evening will fix all of that up.

So really the extra $400 goes into having a prettier rifle IMHO as just using the Rossi will smooth it up over time.
