I realize cigarettes haven't been in rations in decades, but I would have really enjoyed finding these in a Chili Con Carne while in the sand in '08.

I was picking up scrap from an auction at one of the neighbors that's moving on. "Hey do you have any 303's? Dad had some 303 shells in cigarette packs in the shop. I'll set them out and you can grab them when you leave". Thank you very much. Turned out to be a whole carton.

Dominion Cartridge Company (Quebec), cordite loaded MK VI dated 1907. Obviously the 215gr cupronickel FMJ has been replaced with what looks to be an equivalent weight soft point. I would treat the primers as corrosive as they are likely original to the 1907 loading.
 
It was quite the score. "a couple of cigarette packs" turned out to be a carton, carton included. 80+ of the round nose cupronickel, 3 rds spitzer style in cupronickel, ~140 of the "normal" spitzer style. Shell bag held about 1 box of Imperial #4 and about 1 box Fiocchi BB with about 2 boxes worth of reloads. I remember his Mom shooting trap when I was a wee man. And almost 2 boxes of 222 ammo. And 2/3rds of a bag of #8 shot
 
Nice score!!! Are the military rounds with commercial soft nose personal or commercial reloads? I used to have a box of Kynoch .303 hunting ammo that was all repurposed military ball and I know other companies did the same. I've seen ammo where the cordite was replaced with commercial smokeless and only the primed military cases were used whereas some companies only replaced the bullet itself.
