This put a damper on my day.sorry I just need to rant a bit.

Bought a Stevens 200 in 300 WM on Monday. I originally bought an H&R in 22-250
but it would break open on me after firing every time, so it went back to the store from where i bought it from and I went with the Stevens instead.
So today was the first day out with the Stevens. I had previously mounted a Bushnell Legend 3-9X40 (that was getting good groups) on a 300.sav.
I put the Legend on the Stevens and tried it out @ 50 yards. All it did was shoot way too high, even with the scope on it's lowest setting. I couldn't even get it on cardboard never mind the target.
So...
I put the legend back on the 300 sav.
Heading back out to the range tomorrow to see if it's the Stevens or the Bushnell.
Man, they must be getting sick of my face at the store.

"...the scope on it's lowest setting..." As in magnification? That won't change the POI. Sounds like you don't quite understand how telescopic sights work.
Did you bore sight it? Once that is done, you still have to sight in with the ammo you intend using. You'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo it shoots best too.
50 yards is too close as well. Move out to 100.
The scope itself doesn't produce the groups. The scope only allows you to see the target better and place the shot better.
