I'm looking to piece together an AR build. I want something of a higher quality and not your standard MP 15. I just bought a well priced DD bcg and am looking for a similar quality complete upper.

My question is what is a reasonable amount of rounds down range for a higher end brand. I know ARs can run 20,000 plus for barrel life, and most shooters don't put more than 5,000 rounds through one rifle. If buying an upper with 2000 rdr, is that a bad place to start? Is accuracy going to be degrading at that round range or is it still have plenty of life/accuracy left in it.

I'm new to the AR game but want a nice rifle and dont mind it having some miles on it as I'm sure they can take it. I will start out target shooting and once I become comfortable I'd like to take a class and step into some 3 gun.

Thanks for the feedback

All depends how it was treated during those 2000 rounds. If it was mag dump after mag dump and it got super hot you might see a slight loss of accuracy but since we live in the land of 5 and 10 round magazines it's pretty hard to hurt an AR barrel.
Most quality chrome lined or Nitrided barrels will go 20000 rounds before a noticeable loss of accuracy so I wouldn't worry about it, if the price is good buy with confidence.

Unless the user shoots bi-metal jacket bullets, but 223 bimetal jacketed ammo is not common here in Canada anymore.

Picked up a DDM4V7 off EE, about 2500 rounds through it. The DD BCG i got has about 500 rounds on it. All in all, I got a factory DD upper with MI iron sights for a very reasonable price. Next will be a lower, I'm confident that I can have a complete rifle for under 1k, with mags, sights and a bit of ammo.

I'm closing in on 16k on my kac sr15
I' have nor even changed a gas ring or fireing pin retaining pin.
It's also shot around 3500 rounds in full auto.
On bench with 62gr amax 23grs of varget
It's opened up to just over 1 inch MOA.
Fyi this is not a target gun it's a combat weapon.
You get what u pay for.... most of the tI'm.

That should be a hammer forged barrel. 2500 rounds is a drop in the bucket on that baby.

Yes, I'm happy with the purchase. Can't wait to get some time behind the rifle. There were other options on EE but this fit the bill and general idea of what I wanted.
