This fall will be my first time for black bear hunting and Ive decided to use my 99C. I don't hand load for the .308win so I was wondering if there is a factory round nose in a 180gr. Remington seems to have discontinued the Core Lokt round nose. Shots will be at around 50 yards.

Any 180 grain soft point will do. Pointed or round. There was a time when round nose a desired bullet for close up action because of the believed ability to reliably expand better up close and cause a consistant large exit wound. Pointed soft points will do the same damage. I've used 180 grain Winchester Power Points in my .30-06 up close at 30 yards on a smaller buck and it blew a large 2" exit wound. Expansion and damage was optimal even up close.

Discontinued? i can't say for sure one way or the other but what i can say is i did buy 2 boxes last fall for moose season. I sure hope remington hasn't stopped production because they are one of the only factory bullets that my .308 seems to like.

I've seen it when a rifle shoots the rn. better then anything else, so i hope you come up with some, or reload a bunch.

John Barnsness wrote in a review of bullets that the .308 Remington 180 gr, RN was one of the very best cup and core bullets on the market. He reported highly repeatable performance with good expansion and weight retention, better than most standard pointed soft points. I wish that Remington made them available as a component bullet, but they do not.

I have a 99c 308 and have been doing up loads for it. Got lots of 150 and 170 rounds but all my 180s are loaded up for my 30-06. Why a round nose anyways-whats wrong with a typical soft point? Mine sure likes them and is going out for bear next weekend.
