Part one and two of a three video series
These are the memoirs of my Grandfather Regimental Sergeant Major R.H. Kitson
Royal Corps of Signals - 26th Indian Division

If you like enfields and military history then you might enjoy these two videos.
My channel is doing well. I'm almost up to 1000 subscribers.

Like many of you... I enjoy sharing knowledge.
And in this case - the North Africa and Burma Campaign from a chap that was there - my grandfather :)
RSM Kitson had a keen mind and was sharp as a razor up until his last few days. RIP

Cheers my friends and as always
MAPLE LEAF UP!

Good stuff! I served 10 years with the RCCS, two of those spent at the Corps School, Vimy Barracks in Kingston, Ontario.

I went back there a few years ago on holiday and was allowed to simply walk in. The place was a shadow of it's former glory, but the huge Ontario elm tree was still on the Parade Ground. They used to march us into the shade for a break from the heat and humidity during drill periods.

I don't know if the Corps even exists any more.

The Corps as such doesn't exist any more...it's now the Communications and Electronics Branch, or some such permutation.

The tree...didn't Stan the Man (RSM) go bonkers one day and start giving parade orders to the tree?

I remember BB 1, the Genet Building, and the pole farm for linemen. The Sgt's Mess was a beautiful set-up.

As a PRes guy, I served in 2 Sigs, 8 Sigs, Tor Sigs and 709 Comm Regt.

Just a couple of events at Vimy come to mind...Oct '62, dedication of the Jimmy statue at the entrance.

Sep '65, Dedication of the Book of Remembrance.

Sep '67, Reunion.

At each of these events, the parade square was filled with troops and bands.

Now, I understand that the parade square is used for parking!

Former RSMs would be spinning in their graves!

That's a shame! The Corps had some good history. The RSM in my time was WOI John Addy. I was his runner for a while. Yes, the parade square was a parking lot for a conglomeration of vehicles and trailers.

I was a Lineman/Cable Splicer and spent many hours in the "pole orchard" climbing, stringing open wire and doing "pot wipes" with molten lead on lead cable sleeves.

Biggest parade I was on was when HRH (Mary?), the Colonel in Chief came to inspect us. She was quite elderly at the time.

I wonder what happened to the Corps Museum that had been established?
