Fellow gun lovers, good day.

I"ve just talked to a lady at my local "CFO"(Alberta) office as today marks 29th day of my application being recieved by "CFC"(me and 2 refs were called). "CFO" now has my app, and she told me it'll take another 2 weeks because one of the CFO has to do a background checks on me(police report takes the longest she told me). Also, she said to call back in 2 weeks. Is this normal? Anyone went through this?
I notice some even get it approved on 28th day...:mad:

Thanks for any inputs.

4-5 weeks is the norm. Mine took 6-7 weeks with a minor issue getting in contact with a reference. You should see yours soon, it's the Federal Government, so there's no rules.

Mine was in the 8 week area before it finally showed up. At the time I was doing seasonal work so before I left for the summer I sent out my licence app, when I got home there was a nice new shiny card to put into my wallet.

Update :

I guess you learn something new everyday.

Now I just got off the phone with a lady at "CFC". She told me they started processing my app on Aug 24th and that would be the Day 1(also that's the day my credit card was charged). In fact they freaking recieved it on Aug 10th!!! It'll be another 2 weeks before my mandatory 28day cooling off period ends.
My calculation- my 28th day is Sept 7th
Theirs - nope. Sept 21th.

Conclusion :
Your 28day starts whenever they feel like it should, and we, poor civilians, wait and wait and wait for their mercy. This is wrong.

P.S) They interviewd me and my 2 refs on Aug 25th. Plus, I don't have any criminal records or anything like that.

Application Received on: 2009/08/10

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Damn!

I had my card in hand 34 days after sending the application.

Somehow I get the impression that you believe that the service standard is supposed to be 28 days. It isn't. The minimum waiting period is 28 days. They are completely different things.

Well, the 28 days starts from when then "receive" it, which doesn't really tell you anything about what to expect after you mail it. There is no "minimum waiting period", it's just 28 days cooling off.

In Canada anyways, legal gun owners are some of the most law abiding, non-violent and patient people you'll ever know, I don't know what all the gun control fuss is about :p

My renewals have taken as little as one week and as long as seven months. At least once the license had been completed, sealed in an envelope and meter-stamped with the date 29 days before (the cancellation date that) it had been accepted by the post office (which tells me there is a institutional practice of just making us wait). I know one new applicant who just got a license in about five weeks and another new applicant - with an ex - whose license took about six months.

This guy has been waiting for seven months...

the 28 day minimum wait only applies to people in the CFC system, people who are renewing or upgrading. It is a 45 day minimum for new applicants.

taken from the very first page of the application

Processing a firearms licence application involves a variety
of background checks. In some cases, in-depth
investigations are conducted. We require a minimum of
forty-five (45) days to process your application

So then why do they say 28 days, not 45 days, in the course manual in the first place??? To confuse applicants??? Or just for fun? Hell, I think we all are just toys to throw around to those people anyways.
28...45... these numbers mean nothing. Am I wrong?

I don't care if they are swamped. As I've said before and I guess I will say many more times, they work for me, not the other way around. If I told my boss I'd get something done, when I got around to it, I wouldn't be getting around to it!

And Somehow I get the impression that you think you know more about the system than me... You better not be one of those in CFC:mad:.

Logic tells me that the "system" is not really working when it's taken them nearly 2weeks to even open my envelop after recieving it. And, several conversations with them confirms that all they've done on it after 2 weeks is make 3 phone calls, ask the same questions over again, and swipe the visa to get paid. Now it's CFO's turn to take all their time in the world and make me wait more just for the hell of it. you get the idea?? 28 days, 45 days, 300 days, it doesn't matter.

Once again, this is wrong and I don't want any of my hard earned tax dollar in this. :bangHead::bangHead::bangHead:

You're wrong. The 28 day waiting period is written right into the Firearm Act; it is a legal requirement for all new licensees. Renewal applications, on the other hand, do not require this statutory 28 day waiting period.

The "...minimum of forty-five (45) days..." thing to which you refer is more of a service standard, which they are free to set at whatever they want.

So then why do they say 28 days, not 45 days, in the course manual in the first place??? To confuse applicants??? Or just for fun? Hell, I think we all are just toys to throw around to those people anyways.

The 28 day number is written in legislation. It is a mandatory waiting period for all new applicants. It is a minimum period; there is no maximum period.
