Question: Is 9mm parabellum ammunition interchangeable with 9mm x 19 NATO?

I was going to answer 'yes', they are both the same. It's 9mm x 21 that is not interchangeable. Am I correct?

9x19, 9 mm parabellum, 9mm luger, all the same cartridge.

9mm makarov, not the same. IIRC, its one or two mm longer because certain countries banned the use of NATO ammunition.

Google and wikepedia are your friends

Unfortunately, Google and Wikipedia do not address some of the ambiguities in the wording of the Canadian restricted course.

For example, on page 3-10 of the old manual the sentences read:

For example, the 9mm calibre family of cartridges includes 9mm Luger (9mm Parabellum, 9mm x 19mm NATO), 9mm x 21mm, 9mm x 23mm and others. They are not interchangeable.

This indicates to me that 9mm Luger cartridges includes 9mm Parabellum and 9mm x 19mm NATO so they are interchangeable. However, the 9mm x 21mm is not the same.

So back to my original answer, I say 'Yes', the 9mm Parabellum and 9mm x 19mm NATO are interchangeable because they are both 9mm Luger cartridges,

If you do not know the answer Anfoman, I understand if my question intimidated the wealth of knowledge you hold over me. However, I have done my research, selected my answer, explained why and am only looking for a confirmation. No need to reply. :D
