RPAL in the mail. what do I buy?

Had my PAL for a while but applied for my RPAL just in case. Now that I have it I want to use it... if i build an AR what gets registered the lower or the upper? Do I have to join a gun club to shoot before buying or only after purchase when I want an ATT to go try it out? If I buy a mystery box from NEA or piece something together when do I have to register it?

You cannot legally buy anything without the transfer of registration being part of the process.
Don't know if you need to prove range access in AB before you can buy a restricted firearm. Call your CFO - they are the ones who do the final approval.
The lower is the restricted, registered part.
Once a transfer is approved you will get target shooting privileges attached to your RPAL.
 
As tiriaq had mentioned, get your ducks in order and once you are ready and you believe a change in the gun law is imminent, you could cover your bases inexpensively by purchasing a sub $100 lower and a sub $300 .22 target pistol in that order.
 
Wait for RPAL, get a range membership, and buy to your hearts content!!!!

Load up on pistols and ARs

And set aside half of every paycheque for guns !
 
1.Smith & Wesson sw22 2. Smith & Wesson M&P 15 sport 2 3. Sig Sauer 226. I am not a huge Smith & Wesson fan but their prices and quality make them hard to ignore
 
If you are short on funds but want your foot in the door as much as possible ASAP, pick up a $99 AR lower (I just bought a quality Aero Precision one from Saskatoon Gun Works) and a $49 Tokarev TT33 frame from S&J Hardware.
 
A stripped AR frame can be used to make up a rifle. A Tokarev frame is probably going to remain a locked up paperweight. It is unlikely that all the parts could be obtained to assemble a mismatched pistol for less than the couple of hundred bucks that a Tokarev costs.
 
Gain access to EE while your waiting, good deals on ARs and pistols right now. I'd look for M&p ar and a .22 pistol to start.
 
Here is a list of what you'll need, a pistol in 9mm and 22, a 1911 in 45, revolver in 22, 357, 44 mag and 500 S&W. I know I forgot a lot, keep in mind that the equation on how many guns a men should own is (X+1) where X is the number of guns you currently own.

I hadn't considered the 357 or 500 S&W but the others are on my want list, I initially wanted an AR also but my WK180 fills that niche so probably just a lower for now. The wife isn't gonna be happy if she sees the VISA.

Find a .22 pistol that you like; shoot it until you are good with it; in the mean time go looking and handle and fire if you can other guns; get one that fits and you like (cool looking is OK, but that should be the very last attribute that you look at). I agree, it would be nice to pick up an AR; especially if you have somewhere to shoot it.
