Hey guys, newbie here to the forum. Just had a quick question regarding the interview process. The RCMP have contacted my references roughly 2 weeks ago and interviewed them but not myself. Both said it went well and my online status still says "in progress". Should I call to inquire or has anyone heard of them not interviewing the applicant? Any advice would be greatly appreciated; cheers

I don't have an answer for you, but I can tell you where I am at right now.

I have the same status online as you. I was contacted and had interview yesterday. They also tried to contact both of my references yesterday too, but both were at work and both of them called back today and did interview... Both said it seemed to go well and more or less straight forward questions....

wouldn't hurt to call in and ask why you haven't been interviewed yet... They may interview on the spot.

Good luck and hope it goes speedy for you

yeah they will just phone u when they phone u, the whole process can take upwards of 3 months sometimes, esp with more people like you joining in on one of the safest most fun activities around.

Give them a call and ask. They are pretty easy going and willing to answer your questions

It can take a few weeks before they will call you, general rule is, after 3-4 weeks, call the CFO and ask for a status update, remember there is a criminal check that is somewhat extensive, here in Manitoba they submit a check with the Winnipeg police, Brandon police, then the RCMP them selves, and its all mailed out so imagine the time taken for everything to make a full circle. its crazy lol

Just called them, turns out they just forgot to call me ahaha, the nice lady on the phone said once all the interviews are completed, it gets sent to the CFO of your province to get reviewed. She also said it shouldn't take much longer, give or take a week and a bit

Well to update my timeline for you... references interviewed yesterday and according to website, licence has been issued today. :) Give them a call. might be issued before end of week.

My 2 references were called on Monday and I got my interview yesterday. It went well and the lady said that my 2 references went well also. It has not been 28 days since my application got to them. Mine was recieved on Nov 28 so that is 24 days. And since the holidays are coming I'm probably not gonna get my RPAL card till the 1st week of January. I can cross my fingers and hope it comes before!

its easy as pie, answer all questions truthfully like charges, spousal information convictions etc.

Then they will ask you why you want rPAL whatever you do dont say driveby's gang bang or robbing a bank as your purpose for applying.

target, recreational with future consideration to IPSC and other matches is the proper reason and answer in most cases.

Great to read all the advice. I've just moved from Ireland & only submitted my application 10 days ago. Both my references are in ireland & in addition I had to supply a Police Certificate from the Irish police. I was hoping to be back at IPSC in Jan-Feb but from reading this thread I could be in for quite a wait.

By the way.. I'm living in Fergus. Where the best place to go to buy a pistol (CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow)? Obviously I won't be donig anything until I get my PAL & join a club but I'd like to get some prelim. info.

Pat.

packas, welcome to Canada. I'm not in Ontario, but I can say that the best prices on firearms and ammo in Canada are nearly always found online. All of the sponsors on CGN seem to be reputable dealers, so I'd have a look at their websites.

I got my RPAL back in 2000, I never had an interview, and none of my references were ever contacted. Funny how things change. I've also never had my spouse contacted on my renewals, but she signs each time.

Check out Shooters Choice in Waterloo and The Gun Centre in Kitchener.
You'll also need to be a club member to get your ATT. There are quite a few club around that you can join. I belong to Bridgeport and Colby (Colby has IPSC nights every Wednesday) and both are great clubs, But you may want to choose one thats closer to where you live.

I missed my phone call from the 'MPs and was contacted by letter about a week later asking me to call them. The gal was very easy-going. I would suggest that you don't say you want your rpal for home defense. My pal arrived about 9 days later. (that was last week) All totaled, even with the missed called and letter sent, the entire process took about 48 days.
