I'm pretty sure this question has been asked before, so forgive me.

Since I do not have my physical card, will I be unable to purchase guns from a shop? I have pictures of the front and back of the card.

I'm guessing you cannot even be in possession of a firearm without the physical card? I'm in the bush and would love to do some shooting on crown land.

I figured there would be an "R" on the front or something. But all I see are "Non-Restricted", "Restricted" on the back. I'm guessing that is where it states what the card is for?

Noob questions, I know.
 
As far as I know, you have to have your original card. This is also true for transporting. Copies of your ATT / reg certificates etc. is acceptable but the card has to be the original physical card.

If your card lists "restricted" on the back it is an RPAL
 
Legally you will ABSOLUTELY be ALLOWED to purchase guns. All they will need is your PAL info. I bought a gun in a similar situation. Everyone was confused so they called over the CFO (who was 5 feet away at a gunshow,) and he gave the OK. (we called in the CFC to confirm the info, and I showed my Drivers License.)

Likewise, some stores will do it, and I have done it several times. Some stores have different policies.

Once, I didn't have the card at a store, but I knew the info, so they shipped it to the address listed on the card.

Also since you have pictures it may be even easier... all I had was sketchy handwriting on a torn piece of paper.

In the end: Is it Legal? YES. Will stores let you? Maybe...

But now, since you mentioned you were on crown land... do you have a hunting license? You could get into alot of trouble if you are shooting now without a hunting license, and some conservation officer comes along and thinks you are hunting. (This isnt a problem during the supper months, because there is no hunting season running.)

If you set up cans etc he may let you go.

Yup I've had my hunting license for a while now. No intention of shooting at living creatures though. Thanks for pointing that out, I never would have thought of that scenario. I was going to buy some targets, and use some milk jugs perhaps.

Even if I can get away with buying one.... Having it in my truck without the physical license may be a problem too. It's been 10 months since I took the actual test (yest it took that long for approval), so the regulations are a bit foggy, until now, where I can actually start exercising them.

Um... What is the BS exactly? Because the exact situation I described happened to me and some of my family members.
Stay on the safe side, bring targets at the least.

I'm not saying don't do it. By all means have fun, but stay safe. Also gun in the car is probably not a problem. You have a license after all.
Also you are in Alberta I assume? I'm in Ontario, it's far worst here than there, trust me, I lived in Ft. Mcmurray for a while.

Yep. I'm in Alberta, but my license is at home in SK. I should probably wait till I'm done this job, and know I still have one, before i buy any guns. Bloody oil patch.
 
lol fortunes are made on the oil patch ;) I would wait, then go nutz. But remember to have a story/proof for when smokey the bear comes around! Alberta has tons of land just waiting to be shot at!
