RPRimfire Extraction Issues

Hey all,

I took my Ruger Precision Rimfire to the range, and after about 50 rounds or so I noticed that I was having failure-to-extract issues - the empty brass casing was entirely inside the chamber. This seemed to get works the more I shot. Curiously, it seemed to be worse with some types of ammunitions. Winchester M-22 was the worst, seemed to get stuck 4/5 times. I've had no problems with M-22 in my Remington 597 however (but it has a Volquartsen extractor).

I'm going to inspect the bold and try to get a peak at the chamber, but I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem and what they might have done to remedy the issue.

Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I gave the chamber a good clean/scrub and I stripped the bolt and cleaned it out. I didn't see any obvious obstructions that would cause the extrator problems. Likewise, I didn't see the "shelf"/extra material that the fellow describes in the video. Ran some snapcaps through the action, and both extraction and ejection was reliable. Hope to head out to the range today to see for sure.

Another suggestion I received is that it might be certain brands of ammo, i.e. variances in the rim were affecting how the extractor can grasp the casing. First I've ever heard of this, and I've been shooting rimfire for decades. Has anybody else run into this kind of thing?

After watching the video I took a careful look at my bolt. I found that if I pressed the extractor upwards/downwards while trying to actuate it in/out it would hang up. I removed a bit of material to so it could move freely while stressed up/down.

Did a range test with 120 rounds of some cheap Remington ammo after stripping the bolt and cleaning it, runs great now. No problems. Moral of the story: a good cleaning never hurts. :).

Hate to review a "dead thread", but it seems this problem is back. After about 100 - 200 rounds, there are Failure to Extract issues. Clean the chamber, the problem goes away. Time to contact Ruger about this, maybe a new extractor will fix the problem.
