I have 5 of the 10 round RRA Mags for my AR, and I'll be damned if I can get a mag to seat properly if there is a round in the pipe. Any solutions or cures for this that I am missing. The problem only arises when I am shooting an IPSC 3 gun match, I will do a mag change, with one still in the chamber, and the fresh mag won't seat properly. Any ideas?

Thanks

This is a common problem with all AR mags when they are full and you have the bolt forward. Solution is download the mag.

Only mag I know produced that is reliable to seat fully topped up with a closed bolt is the P Mag from Magpul.

I don't own any of the Questar mags so I can't comment on if this is a regular problem with them.

I have the same problem...........I think that if you take off a little bit from the base of the follower (half a case diameter) it would help.

I am going to experiment at some point with one of mine.

it would be easier to move the rivet down half a round... but that would be wrong wouldnt it. Mine do the same.

edit- wrong mag.

My 10 rounders do the same as well, but I have 2 out of the 5 that fits them ok, I have the plastic pulltabs on the bottom so perhaps the spring goes alittle lower?

all good suggestions...but the best answer is...

SLAM THE F***ING MAG HOME! its a tool of war...its meant to take a beating

..that is all

cheers!
+1 That's what you have to do, Easier on the hand with ranger floor plates

I think youll damage the casing or the mag... some of these suckers have no give when loaded like that... try it out yourself.

mag problem

Depending on when bought some of these had long springs Questar will fix if bought from them i think there websitehas something on this.
Also has any one had there mag bodies come apart from bad spot welds.?

perhaps the other guy should just bring a hammer to the range with him? lol

Or he could just open the bolt and use the hold open on it then slam the mag home and release the bolt thats what I do with my XCR and Tavor.
Ya that's great and all, but the AR is designed(like all autos) to take a mag with the bolt fully forward. And since it only happens with the RRA 10 rounders, it's a legit issue.
Ya, and smacking the fugg out of the baseplate, with ranger plate or without doesn't work

I take it you do not shoot IPSC 3 gun matches........

No not yet, I am still a novice as I have only had black rifles for about 6-7 months. This is because have only in the past year or so had the money to own and shoot them. Student debt and poor wages in Sask (not to mention high taxes under the NDP) prevented me from stashing up enough money for such great devices. My rifles will take a mag with the bolt closed but its easier on the mag and the gun to do it with a locked open bolt.

Unfortunately the plastic mag is not a tool of war. You slam it too hard you gonna break the rivet and kill you 45 dollars investment.
