RRA National match

I have the Compass Lake and Krieger versions which both use a standard AR barrel nut wrench.

If I recall RRA uses an internally threaded barrel nut and then a lock ring with a small circular hole to lock the float tube after it is indexed. The lock ring can be undone using one of the armorers wrenches made for the older CAR-15 extension tube nuts-which also use a circular hole. The wrench has a round dowel pin that hooks into the nut. After that is broken loose the entire float tube is unscrewed and a conventional barrel nut wrench can be used to undo the barrel nut from the receiver

Hope that makes sense without a picture

Haha, found a post online that shows assembly of a DCM gun using an RRA tube and better shows What I was trying to describe:

Yeah that’s the one I was thinking of. Remember to loosen the lock ring you’re going to turn it toward the receiver or inwards, and maybe use a heat gun first in case it was assembled with blue loctite.

So i got the tube and locking nut off but now i have run into another issue with the barrel nut being to wide of a diameter for my ar wrench to fit over to engage with the barrel nut teeth. Is there a larger or different model available for these nuts?

I have the USMC armorers wrench which I think is made by Smith Enterprises. Nordic Marksman, a site sponsor, has them advertised:

The outside barrel nut diameter, on 5.56/223 platforms, should all be the same. I know some barrel nut wrenches are made with a portion that fits around the barrel, and won’t fit over the larger threaded extensions that are on some of those DCM style float tubes

The Smith Ent wrench above fits over the non removable float tube on my Compass Lake model no problem. If your RRA tube has this threaded extension sticking out of the barrel nut you will need a barrel wrench that encapsulates the barrel nut and not one of the older USGI 3 tab ones.
