RRA polymer .308 magazines for RFB

Im glad you have a good sense of humor.... Im still feeling totally mortified. On a side note, in my efforts to inject ### #### into this thread I stumbled across a post on snipers hide about why armalite never used the FAL magazines when developing their .308. Since im afraid to link to anything and subjecting anyone else to questionable pictures Ill copy and paste the article. Its interesting because the fal magazines are reliable in the fal rifle because the receiver is machined to feed the rounds, unlike in an ar-15 as such they felt the mags on their own would never stand up to the ar design. I wonder if this is why the Kel Tec's can have such feeding issues? I bet the polymer mags are the fix!

I have not had one misfeed in my RFB after approximately 200 rounds with a pinned 20 round metal metric mag.

well, sounds like you got a good mag...if you go over to Keltec's owners group forum youll see what Im talking about... Maybe someone can correct me, but I think the RRA mags use Inch Fal mags. the Inch FAL slot is bigger, so they can take either, but I think if the RRA polymer mags are the same the tab will need to be filed down to fit into the metric FAL. Id post a pic, but well...

I was waiting for the RRA mags, but finally gave up and looked elsewhere. Got my DSArms 30/5 rounders yesterday :) Thought I ordered 4, but apparently it was 5! Can't speak to how well they feed, but my other DSA mag works perfectly, so here's hoping! I'll be testing it out on Friday, so I'll let you all know how they work.

Got my polymer RRA Mags today....but haven't got to the range yet.....

Question:

My DS-Arms and my factory 5 round mag both damage the bullet tips when you cycle a live round and eject it....?

I tried the polymer ones and there is a slight mark on the tip of the bullet but not very much.

Has anyone else experienced this....it appears magazine related.

Should I dremel the front lip on the mag?

Post pics of the fronts of the polymer and metric mags.

I think I answered my own question...

The follower on the RRA-Arms Polymer mag is basically flush/level with the front lip.

The followers on the DS-Arms steel mags are about an 1/8" below the front lip of the magazine.

I am going to dremel that front lip down and smooth it out.

I had to do the same thing on a couple of my LAR15 mags that were feeding rough. I'm still waiting on my LAR8 mags, they shipped on the 15th via UPS.

where are you guys getting these polymer mags from, guys are saying that theirs are coming in but being stingy with the details.

Ditto, where are these RRA polymer mags in stock, and for how much?

On another note, had mine out today with the 30/5 DSA mags; all worked fine, except one particular mag that wouldn't feed the last round - it was weird, the bolt would lock back consistently with one round remaining, and then feed that last round just fine if I released the bolt. I'm going to try re-pinning that one particular mag, and see if that eliminates the problem. Very odd. Still, overall very happy with the DSArms mags :)

It's definitely a different look with the 30/5 mag - I'm looking forward to some pics of rifles with the RRA polymer mags

Magpuls were added, and the 5 round rivet is counter sunk so itis just below flush on the mag's surface. They lock up good, and with a bit of use, should eventually drop free on their own, but are a little tight in the magwell right now. If anyone is still looking for a source for these feel free to PM for info.

I got my 3 right after new years, haven't taken the rfb out to test em, but rounds feed like butter from them compared to my steel mags.

What ever you do don't buy RRA steel mags they have the big tab on the front. I wasted 150 bucks buying two from Questar. :(

Good news: You can easily mod the inch pattern mags to work in the RFB.

Brab your stock mag, grab your inch mag(s), grab your dremel/grinder, and remove material until they match :)

I know with the milsurp mags you just grind the big tab completely off and it works fine.

Turns out the 5/20 I had at home was an inch pattern so I took the angle grinder to it and rubbed off the tab on the front and it now locks into place and I will test for function next chance I get to take the RFB out for some more fun.
