RRS Anvil 30 ... good choice? Other options?

I’ve got a PIG0311 tripod coming as a Christmas gift. In anticipation I’ve picked up some Area 419 Arca gear. The only thing missing now is the tripod head. From what I’ve seen on the interwebs the RRS Anvil 30 seems to be tough to beat ... but sure isn’t cheap! I’ve always been more of the buy once cry once philosophy but I want to do my due diligence here.

Anyone running one of these? What do you think?
Is it worth the money? How much did it come to in Canadian dollars when it was all said and done?
Any other options recommended?

I know a few PRS competitive shooters and they all were telling me this year to buy the Anvil 30 and accept no substitutes.

Had mine since they were released. It was around $500 if I recall correctly. Absolutely love it though and do recommend it

Yeah, I've had one since it was pretty new, want to say it was about $500 as well. Best head for shooting in my opinion. A buddy of mine who prefers to lead movers (instead of trapping them) prefers a levelling base for that reason but that's a personal preference thing.

I have a TFCT 33 with Anvil 30 and pretty much echo whats been said. For shooting its the best out there imo, not cheap but you get what you pay for. If I had just bought the RRS setup in the first place it would have cost me less in the long run.

I use a Leofoto LH-55 and it works pretty good. Picked up a used one on Kijiji for $200. Never used any of the RRS. Just cannot justify paying that kind of money.

Absolutely love my tripod and gear from RRS.
Yea, expensive but you won't ever need to replace it.

So I got my tripod Christmas present and stole the ball head off a Fotopro tripod I’ve used for hunting over the last few years. I’ve never really tried shooting for precision off the tripod as it isn’t the sturdiest for a heavy rifle. This ball head is surprisingly good for a 200$ tripod / ball head package. Tightens up nicely, is smooth, and the tension is easily adjustable. I honestly don’t see the need for a 500$ RRS Anvil. I’d really like to try one if I get the chance just to see how much better it could possibly be. Here are some photos:
