RSA & Zimbabwe 2007

Nice bunch of trophies. Just reminds me that my trip seems to be getting farther away not closer.

I was booked to hunt Tanz. for 21 days in 2009. But now with the slight price increases (2x-5x) there is now way that we will be making that trip.

So I am now starting to look for another hunt.

I will have to check out you Ph. and company

Congrats again.

And that is a nice cat with horns;)

Graylake,
I was hunting with Jannie Otto Safaris in South Africa http://ww w.jannieotto.com/ (note space) and African Dream Safaris in Zimbabwe. Tim Schultz of African Dreams operates only in Zimbabwe as far as I know, and Jannie operates just about everywhere but Zimbabwe. It really depends on what you are trying to do.

Neo,
It sounds like you have done your homework. I'm looking forward to your pictures. Be warned though, Africa is addictive!:D
Speaking of boots, bring your running shoes as well. You will probably be happier.

Well, the day is finally here -- A-Zone and Neo are heading to the airport in less than two hours!! If all goes well, we'll begin hunting on Friday. Africa, here we come!!!

Y'all can expect to see a new thread full of pics shortly after our return on the 15th.

Neo

Dogleg those are great pics. You need to learn to put in captions though to explain them! :D

As for the .416 X bullet performance, I'd be curious to know if the petals broke off on one side, that caused it to veer off course so badly.

Also I recommend you give the 400gr Nosler Partition a go, they are a superb bullet. Very heavily constructed, and the partition is moved more forward then on a smaller caliber partion.

Congrats on a great hunt, especially the buff part. Exciting ain't it! Sounds like you got your nickle's worth.

Too bad the the country is in such decline, and there is only one solution .... Bad Bob has to go!

Since there's no oil (I think) in Zimbabwe, the USA has zero interest in what goes on there. Mugabe will do whatever he wants... hell he could kill 5,000,000 people and the US wouldn't intervene.

Demonical,
I know some guys that did exploratory drilling in Zimbabwe, nothing came of it. Mugabe won't have to kill 5,000,000 people, they will die on their own.
The expanded TSX looks like it could be used in a Barnes ad. I've about decided to use 400 grain Swift A-Frames which as you no doubt know are a heavier and bonded version of the Partition. Besides, I already have a load for them that shoots to the solids. There doesn't seem to be any doubt about their effectiveness.
I suppose that I should have put in some captions; I guess I was envisioning just fielding questions.:)

I just got off the phone with my hunting partner from Tanzania. It appears as though Tanzania has decided to triple their trophy fees! I am sure this will drive folks to other locals. From my list of '06 prices:

buffalo goes from $1100 to $3300
eland/hippo goes from $1260 to $3780
impala goes from $360 to $1080
lion/leopard goes from $3000 to $9000
warthog/wildebeest goes from $480 to $1440
Zebra goes from $890 to $2670

Undoubtedly all other government associated fees will go up in kind.

Boomer,
Much of what is happening in Tanzani is being appealled or fought in court. It doesn't look great at the moment, which is too bad. I'd like to check the place out myself. I have an outfitter that will keep me updated.
