I just finished watching Ian's(of Forgotten Weapons) video on the RSC 1917 and 1918 and was quite surprised to see that the owner is apparently Canadian. I wouldn't be surprised if that fellow frequents these forums.

Anyways, I'm curious if anyone knows how many of these rifles are currently in Canada? I can't imagine more than a handful. Also, if they ever come up for sale, what might they sell for?

Hey,

Yes I am the owner of these rifles. I have heard of 2 other 1917's in Canada (yet never seen them, not even pics.) Mine is the only matching one I believe.

I suspect my 1918 is the only one in Canada. As is my Meunier A6 Rifle.

I have more pics on my Instagram account. :)

And a Meunier A6 no less? Sounds like a very impressive collection. Did you buy them State-side and have them imported? I'm guessing you are correct that there are only a handful here.

I've only just bought my first French rifle, a MAS 36/51. What a blast to launch grenades with it.

I find a lot of the French arms are a little under appreciated. There is something about a mass issue WWI self-loader that is really fascinating.

Great job Paul - Wonderful that you assembled those guns together :)

I have a questions though - what is with the copper brazing on the tops of these guns' magazine covers? Seems to be on all the examples I've seen pics of.

I'm so glad we got a video on 2 rarely seen surplus guns.

It's the oddball stuff like those 2 guns that really makes this hobby so much fun.. the French really were ahead of their time in many aspects and those 2 guns really prove that to me.

Thanks for sharing.

I hear ya. Getting to know pcvando better has helped fill that void for me. Nice pickup! A MAS 36/51 would be/is first on my list as well

The RSC gums do make you wonder what the French were thinking when they devised the magazine loading system. I can't imagine them making it less efficient, reliable or robust. But someone had to be first...

As Ian and C&Rsenal have pointed out many times, the late 1800s/early 1900s saw a lot of goofball ideas for pistols and rifles. Like you said, someone had to be first.
