So I found this rub line out hunting yesterday but it is on pretty thick trees usually, many 8 inches in diameter, and low to the ground. The rub is not very pronounced, not alot of bark removed on most trees. On some it is more visible.

I have seen alot of elk/moose sign and spooked 2 whitetails there a week ago. I have also seen buck tracks and some droppings in the area. cou:

I was under the impression that most whitetail bucks rubbed trees of smaller diameter 1"-4" maybe. It's definitely a rub line and so I am wondering if elk/moose would do that too or only whitetails who follow certain routes usually? Usually the elk and moose rubs I see are more pronounced higher up on a tree, and not in a line. I set up my trail cam but who knows if I'll find the culprit.

Deer will rub on anything from a half inch sapling to a telephone pole, normally about 3-4 ft off the ground. It all depends on the size of the buck.

I personally have never seen an elk rub but I have seen the damage a bull moose in the rut can do, and it was similar to someone landing a helicopter in clump of cedars.
