I have a decent set of Tasco 10x50's porro prisms that I bought about 20 years ago (joking aside, they're quite nice but nowhere near as sharp as my Swarovski's 
). Just this past month, I noticed that the area on the right side, where my ring finger rests just beside the objective lens, has become soft and sticky. You can smudge the black material onto your fingers. I thought maybe I had transferred some bug dope, sunscreen or something but not likely.
I tried cleaning with water, soap and water and some alcohol - nada. Should I be looking to neutralize the area? Or cover with another material?
Suggestions?
