Ruger #1 .25-06 to .257 Wby?

How big a job is this, or is it even possible? Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears to be as simple as reaming the chamber and installing the proper extracter to deal with the larger case head. With the Ruger's flat breach block face no work would need to be done there - correct.

Any ideas on cost?

It is a fairly simple job. My guess is it would cost anywhere from maybe as low as $150 on up ...

the chamber depth has to be exact without setting the barrel back... that would entail a lot of extra work.
 
I've got one, it shoots fine.
The ejector would also have to be done, because of the belted case of the Weatherby.
I bought this rifle already chambered, but personally wouldn't do the 25'06 over to the Weatherby if I owned one.
However there may be a bit more gain than 150FPS, I would think.

Thanks alot guys. I myself would not go for a conversion like this, I was enquiring for a buddy, now he can proceed if he so chooses.
 
An even easier approach would be to rechamber to 25/06 Ackley Improved. If you look at the reloading manuals, the Ackley comes very close to the 257 Weatherby. I assume that you would reload.

It would not be easier.. the barrel requires setting back to correctly headspace the AI chamber... setting the barrel back one turn is a big job in itself.
 
I looked into this same conversion for my Browning B78, and it is straightforward as mentionned.

The financial considerations - you will spend the money to rechamber, gain some velocity, but require more expensive components and reduce the re-sale value of the gun. Now if you intend to shoot the barrel out, re-sale value doesn't matter. On the other hand, sometimes we do stuff just because we want to. :)

Very close?
I'm not sure how much more capacity the AI chamber would give you, but you can't agrue that the Weatherbyy is quite a bit more ooverbore and hold more juice than the '06 AI case will!:dancingbanana:

Myself, I wouldn't mess with it , the 25/06 is fine as is.
The one I have was bought as is , withh a buch of extras like Kipplinger trigger ans Wolf springs.
The barrel is not staying on!:D
